Waffle House — Restaurant in Virginia

First time ever leaving a review for any business..But I really needed to. (I think that in itself should say something). I stopped by here at this location for the very first time. Not from this area. I walked in and sat down. A couple cooks looked at me. But did not say hi hello, howdy how are you...nothing. I sat for about 5 minute then went to use the restroom. Came back and sat back down. No acknowledgement, Not even a smile. A few waitresses walked right past me. No acknowledgement..not at all. I began to wonder what the deal was. Even the manager came out. Was being chummy with the waitreses..but still no acknowledgement. I sat for at least 10 minutes more before one waitress even acknowledged me. I almost didn't want to stay. I think she saw that I was looking up the business to write this review. Then when I was trying to make a simple request..for steak and cheese patty melt. It seemed as if she had trouble understanding my simple request. I never ever wanted to leave a review for any business before. I have been using the internet for over 20 years. But I can not go without leaving some sort of statement about this place. I am not a negative person, I'm a quiet nice guy. The food was good But when I go into a restaurant, more than any other type of business especially one fully staffed and not in the middle of a busy rush, as a middle aged American in the land of America, I expect at the very least a smile, a greeting a hello.. within the first few minutes.. Best Waffle House ! Stopped there yesterday 5 - 6 AM. Staff was super friendly and energetic. What a great way to start the day especially on a Monday morning ! We just had sunny side up eggs, white toast and bacon, but honestly, best eggs and bacon I've ever had, seriously ! I usually don't eat the egg white, just dip my toast in the yolk, but this time I ate everything, gave back an empty plate for the first time in my 48 years ! The bacon... Wow ! It was amazing ! Everything was cooked to perfection. We travel back and forth from Canada (Quebec) to Florida 2 or 3 times a year, so we have been to many different Waffle Houses, and this one deserves the best rating by far ! We had planned to stop at exit # 12 off I-81 in WV, but my boyfriend missed the exit, so we ended up in Winchester VA on Getty Lane. I'm very happy he missed our planned exit ! I usually don't write any comments, but this Waffle House deserves a special mention. I have 2 regrets; I wish I had the names of the young lady who served us and the gentleman who cooked our perfect breakfast so that I could give them a special mention. My 2nd regret is that I should have let them know on the spot how much we appreciated them. (I was too shy). I will definitely go back to see them on our way back up to Canada. The waffle house of the past is not now. I have seen many people work through waffle houses, and the food has always been good and the service. It has fallen, and it was really one of the last places I have frequent for about 27 years. This store is newer, about 10 years old, roughly. The service was barely OK. We ordered our drinks, and it took about 15 to 20 minutes to get them. The table behind ne came in after us, and they had their food way before us, and it was a larger party. The food came in sections for some reason and was mostly in correct. We got toast once we finished our meal. I understand this is not an easy job, but food is one thing you have to get right. The hash browns were overcooked and crunchy, the waffle was ok, and the sausage was ok. The eggs were under cooked the white parts of the eggs were runny. I was displeased with the food and the service. Waffle house is struggling, and if it keeps on this pace, it soon will fail. It was not crazy overcrowded for a Saturday as it has been in the past. They need improvement, better people, or management. My frustration with this place is because I liked it but I do not need it and that is why I can't recommend it. I will try again one day, but it will be a long time, most likely. At one time, I went their every weekend both days...
