el con has been our favorite place to go out since moving here last august and we are wayy past due on this review. so for starters.. everyone at the table gets their own salsa. where else does that as the standard?! it's also cold for those of you that matters to. top shelf house margaritas are hands down the best- rumor has it only family know the recipe and they keep it that way by coming in each day to mix up their magic. and it is magic. consistent delicious food- we have tried quite a bit of their menu. it's all great quality, generous portions, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. the service my dear friends in this establishment is phenomenal. we have never had a bad experience with any of the staff but I have to give a special shoutout to our boy nicolas because he is the bees knees! above and beyond every time we interact with him even when he isn't our server. always a smile and great attitude with awesome recommendations! tonight he actually had us try the sopapillas and I may be a bit bothered now that I've come to think of it.. I'll want to order them every time we come back! 😅 and if you're still with me here after this massive yet much deserved rave review, our most favorite part (soon to be yours) of eating out here is the bill. the biggest bang for your buck (and best buzz off 1 drink) you can't get anywhere else! 10/10...

😡😡 The waitress we had tonight was not very efficient when she was at the table she was in a big hurry didn't wait to talk to me. Just assumed that I was through with my meal when I asked for extra chips because I still had a bowl of queso and some salsa and I was still eating my beans and rice but they wanted to charge me extra for the chips. And I don't think I will be back because I've been coming there for 20 something years and I have never been treated like that before. The staff on August 23rd 2025 was very rude I don't have to bring my money back there. And the said party is I love that restaurant but they told me it was fine that they didn't care if I come back or not. And you would think as much as they charge for the bowl of queso that they wouldn't mind giving you just a few chips to finish it out with. 😡😡 Usually I would give five stars plus but on this one I give 10...

3 star rating because of the service and dessert. The place always has a full parking lot. Saw a lot of people picking up food to go. We went for the first time because everyone said the food was good. I had been with my employer for a lunch and the food was good so we decided to try it in the evening. The main course did not disappoint, but the service left us waiting. Us and two other tables were left waiting to place orders while the server was fixing a problem with the food next to us. At the end of the meal, we were offered free sopapillas, supposedly free tonight. Went ahead and took them and was very disappointed, they were difficult to cut and dough was very thick and chewy. No where close to fluffy and light. May or may not go back a another time. Check your times to eat because they are closed for several hours kn the afternoon before opening for...

Margs are good. I’d advise to ask for an extra shot along with. If you get a flavored marg, ask for extra flavor/syrup. Queso was below par, which is abnormal for El Con :( found an unmelted chunk of cheese in our “cup”. Ordered the Chimichanga meal. Instead of ONE, there was three, smaller chimichangas, filled with nothing but “shredded” chicken. No seasoning other than a small amount of salt & pepper thrown on, at best. (Tasted and smelled like canned chicken) no beans, no rice, no sauce within or on top of the mini chimichangas …there was also couple of fork marks on one of the “chimichangas”. I guess to check for doneness? Literally was mini tortillas, wrapped around canned chicken… The Bellmead location is better. Got the check, tipped well, and our waitress was nice, and did her best.

We had Andrea as our server. She was very friendly and personable, answered any questions we had, and knew the menu. We got the guacamole salad, chicken fajitas, and a combo plate. I forgot the name. Chips were crisp, salsa was nice with a building heat, and while the guacamole was just mashed avocados, they were perfectly ripe. Huge chunks of chicken for the fajitas. The tamales were so good as were the charro beans, refried beans, and the RICE. The rice was very tasty. The prices were extremely fair. Will absolutely return.

Being native Texans living out of state we crave authentic Tex-Max when we travel back to visit family & friends. El Conquistador didn’t disappoint!! Loved everything from the salsa & chips to the margaritas & Texas sized draft beer to our tacos, enchiladas & tamales!! Had the best waiter who took great care of us. Definitely put them on your list for your go to Mexican restaurants 😉
