Stood in line for nine minutes in the phone order line. There were two customers in front of me. Nine minutes! Phone orders! Anyway... it's finally my turn... my order is wrong. I ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 cups of cheese. They only have one sandwich and 2 cups of cheese. The guy proceeds to explain to me that they only have one sandwich (which took another whole minute). He asked me if I had time to wait while they made the second sandwich. I really don't have time to wait... that's why I freaking called it in! So he writes up the order. Proceeds to charge me. I had to wait a whole 5 minutes. Didn't even get a "sorry for wasting your time / getting your order wrong". They acted like it was my fault. Sandwich was good. Cheese soup was good. Service sucks. I mean, is that old hippie guy the owner? Can they put anyone there who is any slower? This is not the first time that we've had bad service. It's my last time to go there for sure. Even though my parents started taking me there when I was young, and I started taking my kids now... this last experience was enough to make me not want to go back. In short... sandwich good,...
Read moreYou know that feeling when you bite into a sandwich and it's just perfect? That's what you get at Schmaltz's Sandwich Shoppe in Waco. I hit up their bigger spot recently and it was fantastic. I have fond memories of coming to Schmaltz's as a kid, and now, over 30 years later, it's incredible to share that same delicious experience with my own family. It’s more than just a meal; it's a taste of nostalgia and a new memory being made. I went with the classic traditional Schmaltz with honey mustard, and seriously, the bread is the real MVP here. It's homemade daily and toasted just right, so you get this awesome crunch on the outside and it's still super soft inside. Schmaltz's has been a Waco staple since '75, and once you try it, you'll get why. They've got soups, salads, and plenty of ways to customize your sandwich too. If you want a genuine taste of Waco – and maybe relive a few good memories or make new ones – you've gotta check out Schmaltz's. It's truly "Waco Born & Bread."
I'll be back...
Read moreSchmaltz's is far and away the best sandwich shop in town. Their homemade bread is fantastic, and really it's what takes their sandwiches over the top. It's been years since I had eaten here last, but the quality has not wavered a bit. Since the last time I visited, they have introduced a jalapeno cheddar bread. They were out at the time, but I will be coming back more often to try and get some! I also recommend trying their wheat bread, I think it's even better than the white bread as if that was even possible! Their portions are huge, and their large sandwich always satisfies. Can't go wrong with any sandwich on the menu either! The only knock I have on my latest visit was that I asked for no tomatoes and I received tomatoes. Not a big deal, and definitely not enough to keep me from...
