This establishment has the most comprehensive cocktail menu I've ever had the pleasure of perusing and experiencing, and I have yet to be disappointed by a concoction devised by their staff. In fact, I would venture to say that this is my favorite destination for a sophisticated drink, and really pleases the palate.
So why 4 stars instead of 5? It has nothing at all to do with the drinks, quality, or the friendliness of the staff at all. The problem lies in the location itself, which is too small to support the demand that has grown for this hidden treasure. The feel is that of a cramped New York bar, replete with congestion. The burgeoning popularity leads to frequent overcrowding, and there just aren't enough seats to accommodate the patrons. This, in turn, impacts serve times. If you want to have a single drink at this establishment, budget at least a half hour for your visit. Sitting at the bar will likely reduce your time (if there's a seat available), and sitting at a table could mean you wait for well over a half hour. During one visit, my wife and I waited 45 minutes after ordering, hadn't received our drinks, and dejectedly gave up. However, we've also been lucky enough to come in to a more intimate audience, and be served immediately and endlessly. I've found that popularity peaks in early evening, and tapers off around 11pm or so. If you're drinking at a quarter til 1, you may even be there with only a handful of other folks. That said, if you want to experience this place at its best, I suggest a later visit.
Lighting could also be improved upon slightly. They've chosen a post prohibition style motif, and it works well, but it's a bit too dark.
Overall, it's still a winner, and again...the drinks can't be beaten. If they can take care of a few of the growing pains, it could even achieve perfection in a bar. For now, I alternate between here and Old 97, depending on my objective. If I'm going for the atmosphere, with great drinks, I'll opt for the Old 97. If I want a more thoughtfully invented libation, and atmosphere is secondary, this...
Read moreI have waited a month to collect my thoughts and write this review. Since moving back to the area last year, my husband and I have frequented the Crafted Cocktail with our daughter. The bartenders would make her a “fancy drink” of juice and always welcome our family. It was our favorite place. We even had our wedding reception (15 people) there on a whim in August.
Fast forward to January 6, the experience resulting in me never returning. We entered around 6pm and there was only 2 other patrons at the bar. We had four adults and three children (one an infant) and went to the same booth we always go to. Immediately a male bartender was making backhanded comments about us having kids there (also there is a sign on the door stating they are welcome before certain times). He was rude and displeased the entire stay. He even sent two separate ladies over to ask how many were in our party to see if we meet the booth minimum. Fast forward to drinks. I asked, as usual, to have a special kids drink for the two kiddos. This was pineapple juice and orange juice and some grenadine. The man CHARGED ME ALMOST FORTY DOLLARS FOR TWO DRINKS AS HE RANG THEM IN AS PAINKILLERS. For a 5 oz cup of juice. We were rushed out and left with a tab of over 200 dollars (happy to pay but should not have been charged for the juice beyond a juice price). The bartender commented to his colleague again on our departure about our party. Meanwhile, the kids were so well behaved, read the entire stay and didn’t make a peep. And there were only two other guests there.
You’ve lost our business and I share this with anyone who asks....
Read moreGreat atmosphere but a somewhat stuck up and rude clientele. Went for New Years Eve event. We walk in and we were the only one standing and waiting for a table, seating is first come first serve so no big deal. Waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order, and another 10-15 to be served. While waiting we noticed a table getting thier checks and stood by the table waiting for it to open up, we were joking around with them as they paid and proceeded to sit once they left. Upon sitting down a lady complained to us that they had already requested the table as they were late for a larger party already seated. Upon hearing various stories from the rude and snobby lady we got tired of being pestered by a lady who obviously is use to getting her way and elected to pay out bill and leave. We had multiple options for New Years Eve but decided on this place as we are both fans of the 20's area and wanted something different. Upon telling the bartender what happened she was very kind and said they do not hold tables and said it was first come first serve. Not wanting to fight over a table we left. Disappointed that management did not ask the party who lied and pestered us to leave. These were obviously wealthier patrons but it appears money does not come with manors or honesty. Sad that this was my first time going out on New Years Eve and I'm in my mid 40's only to have it ruined by rude and lying...
