Allow me to preface this review with the fact that this place seemed very popular. Their pizzas must be good because every other person waiting for pickup had ordered a pizza. Perhaps I should have, too. Unfortunately, I did not. We ordered the lasagna and eggplant parmesan. The parm came with a side salad and we ordered another salad w/eggplant ($2 extra plus $5 for the salad), the mozzarella sticks and a slice on Limoncello cake. The total came to $45 and we added a tip for the staff. The cake was very good; tasty and moist. Both ounces of salad had crisp lettuce. The $2 slice of cutup eggplant added to the $5 salad was decent Looked baked, tasted grill. That's it for the good. The bad (we'll start small). One expects a side salad to be smallish. One does not expect an added salad to be the same size. Both had bland tasting olives from a can, 2 slices of onion, 2 slices of cucumber and a slice of tomato cut into 4 pieces. The dressing obviously went from store-bought bottle to plastic container. The sauce was HORRID! That's the long and short of it. It contained spices heretofore unknown to this 68-yo Italian's palate. 15 hours later, I'm still burping up unsolicited reminders. I don't expect anyone's sauce to be better than my homemade (yes, my is perfection) but I do expect it not to taste like it came from a 55-gal barrel of liquid fracked from the OK prairie. I had a g/f who used to make sauce by adding ketchup to a can of Food Lion tomato sauce. It don't recall it being as bad as this sauce. I should have given less credence to the google reviews and more to the fact that this establishment's name had "pizza" in the title. I chose this from a list of Wake Forest "Italian restaurants because I didn't want the extra 50min drive back & forth to my favorite Italian spot in the Oak Park shopping center in Raleigh. The eggplant: Again, HORRID! It was almost liquid. No need to chew; just let it rest on the tongue for the flavor. Problem was, the only 'flavor' was the hint of used grease (the bland, tasteless mozzarella sticks had the same flavor but weren't as liquid, thankfully). Blindfolded, one would guess one was eating boiled okra. Halfway through, I put down my fork and ate the rest (what I could) with a spoon, though neither of us finished our entree. Moreover, I didn't think it was possible to slice eggplant that thin. The cheese on the parm & lasagna: tasteless. Plenty of it but tasteless. The lasagna noodles were OK but the cheeses rendered it only edible to the point of sustenance. Indeed, my partner asked me this AM if we should give the leftovers to the dog. I asked her, "Why don't you like the dog?" (sauce is not good for dogs anyway, so this sauce could be lethal). I'm giving Pizza Amore 2-stars because of the friendly waitstaff and the very tasty cake, but I'll never eat there again. I can get much better food, at a lower cost, at my favorite spot in Raleigh. I will NEVER allow my laziness to dictate my...
Read moreMy husband and I came for lunch after visiting Hill Ridge Farms. We had never gone to this restaurant before. I got the Godfather sandwich and he got a Calzone. My sandwich was absolutely delicious and I think my husband enjoyed his calzone. Too bad We couldn't get fountain soft drinks because their machine was out of order, so we were stuck with having to buy canned sodas. I wasn't too crazy about that since no free refills were available. I have two complaints, I don't think it's necessary for such a small dining room to have both a television turned on playing quite loudly, as well as the loud background music. We were sitting directly under that television and I wished they had not had it turned on. Nobody was watching TV, and it was making too much noise pollution. The other complaint was something that I witnessed. It didn't happen to us but it happened to the neighboring table. When the cashier/server delivered a pizza on its tray to the neighboring table he carried it over by balancing it in a flimsy wire stand. When the server clumsily placed the wire stand (which was balancing a good sized pizza) on the table, the pizza tray fell right off of the stand making a loud clanking sound when it crash landed onto the table, and hot pizza almost landed on one of the patrons laps! As the pizza slid off it's tray, a few of the pieces touched the bare table & ended up against the wall. What the guy should have done, was carry the wire stand over first, then turned around and walk back to get that pizza. Mind you he only had about 4 ft to walk. I'm glad that wasn't our pizza because we would have told him to make us another one since it had slid off and hit the table and the...

Atmosphere and Service: 6.3/10 – The building has an old, almost run-down feel that adds a unique character to the dining experience. The brick interior is especially cool and offsets the smaller dine-in and outdoor areas. The restaurant appears clean despite its aged appearance, and the staff is friendly and hardworking. Food arrived hot and fresh, showing a dedication to quality.
NY Cheese Pizza: 6.2/10 – A very good pizza with decent quality and a fair price. The taste was satisfying and closely aligned with a New York-style pizza. While the crust had a nice crispness, the undercarriage was a bit too soft, which slightly detracted from the overall experience.
Mozzarella Sticks: 4.4/10 – Freshly made with good-quality cheese, but the breading had a slight off taste that made them less enjoyable. This dish fell short of expectations.
Steak and Cheese: 6.9/10 – A very good sandwich with perfectly cooked, high-quality ingredients. The bread was toasted to perfection and complemented the filling well. It was priced fairly, but the meat-to-bread ratio could have been better balanced to make the sandwich even...
