Lumpy's Ice Cream — Restaurant in Wake Forest

This review has been a long time waiting. I happened to stumble across this lovely little spot one day when I was pregnant with my daughter. My big craving was ice cream and I went to cold stone at least 6 times a week. One night I traveled half an hour to cold stone for some ice cream and got their about 3 minutes before closing and they didn’t let me in. I was heart broken, however, I still wanted ice cream. So I looked up places near by, and Lumpy’s popped up. I figured I’d give It a try. When I pulled up, I noticed the “Open” sign was turned off and the store had actually closed about 10 minutes prior to my arrival, so I turned my car back on and was about to leave when I saw a worker wave his hand for me to go inside. He greeted me, and walked me through every flavor they had. He informed me that they are all home made and uniquely made. I tasted EVERY flavor that night and had an amazing experience. This was well over 6 months ago and It was the BEST decision I’ve ever made. My family and I are life customers. From the staff, to the unique flavors, to the big ol’ mustache. This place is the best ice cream place ever. It’s more than just selling ice cream here. Its about giving people a little bit of happiness one scoop at a time. The kindness that every employee has is just incredible. More people should know about this place. Cold stone wouldn’t let me in 3 minutes before closing, but LUMPY’S let me in 10 minutes after they had closed. It’s honestly the little things like that, that set apart big companies from a local business. I’m so grateful to cold stone for not letting me in that night. It is important that you read this whole thing. It's really heartbreaking how terrible this ice cream place's customer service is because the quality of their ice cream is good. My boyfriend and I were having a bad day so we decided to cheer ourselves up with ice cream. Ice cream makes anything better, right? Well, the entire staff AND OWNER acknowledged our negative energy the second we walked into the door and matched it perfectly. So instead of cheering us up, they made us feel worse. We received awful sarcasm and attitude from the staff and owner and the customer service was some of the worst I've ever seen.

If a customer walks in with a frown on their face, you still smile and make them feel 100% welcome, you serve them accurately, and you tell them to have a nice day. We received the opposite. We saw the owner laughing with a few other customers so it was extremely disappointing that all we got was sarcasm and attitude because we weren't as "cheery" as some of their other customers. We wanted a laugh and a good time to cheer us up after all!

This place really needs a lesson on customer service skills! You don't know what your customers are going through so you still need to serve them with a smile. My boyfriend and I were so disgusted by how the owner treated us that we will never be stepping foot in this place again, which is a shame because we like the ice cream. Everyone was incredibly rude to us and we received horrible attitude from the owner and staff when we did nothing wrong! These guy's have the most amazing ice cream, banana splits, and milkshakes on the planet and they have the most awesome customer service on the planet!! I was in the mood for a scoop of ice cream after dinner. My kids are normally with me but tonight, I was solo. I walked in and I realized that one scoop or even two wasn't going to satisfy my Lumpy's craving so I decided on a banana split instead. I had the best banana split ever!! I had drunken berry, happy hippy mix, and chunky chocolate chip ice cream with whipped cream, fudge, caramel and wet walnuts. I sat outside in the Adirondack chairs and fully enjoyed my banana split. Not only was the banana split amazing but the customer service is always above and beyond consistently. I also love that you guys always go above and beyond when my kids are with me as well.
