Update to review. Went back to try again and it was a better service experience this time. The cashier was pleasant and offered (mentioned) choices for sides and even engaged me to recommended other menu items, thank you for that! This is very important for first time customers who don’t know and for repeat customers who may forget. The chicken taste (soy garlic) was spot on but the wings are so small compared to other BonChon chains, it’s not worth the price compared to other location standards. Since Annandale store is closed, I’ve been going to other locations in the DMV area and finally found where to go when craving their food. The Chantilly location is better. Yes it is far but I don’t mind as long as I’m 100% happy with my food.
Previous review (first visit): We just moved in the are and was exited to have Bonchon in the neighborhood. Visited on a Saturday afternoon and was surprised to find the place empty (first sign). I ordered soy garlic chix to go, happy service was very fast as my 32pc chix and fries were ready in less than 5min (2nd sign) but I felt skeptical though. I got home and found no pickled radish. Called the restaurant and was told off that I didn’t mention wanting the complimentary side dish. WHAT THE FREAK!! I HAVE NEVER HAD TO ASK FOR IT AS IT CAME FREE WITH THE CHICKEN. What kind of Bonchon is this! Okay still have the chix and seasoned fries so we ate and OH BOY, food had to be trashed. Chix was so dry, some pieces have browned and smelly meat and fries are hard (old)… Should have went with my instinct. If its too good to be true, then it isn’t. YOU DON’T MESS WITH PEOPLE’s FOOD!!!...
Read moreWhile the staff is friendly and the location clean... this is the most unique Bonchon I’ve visited, but in a bad way.
My most recent order: salmon salad and 8 piece wings resulted in a salad without salmon and 8 flats with tips. It was a takeout so the missing salmon was not noticed until late but the 8 flats were disappointing. On the front counter where you can order is a sticker diagram showing the “anatomy of a wing” (drumette, flat, & inedible tip). So I was quite surprised to have paid over $10 for some flats and tips.
But what really makes this place unique and why I no longer come here twice a month (I tried to avoid this place entirely until the new Alexandria location opens) are this locations “boneless wings.” The strips are Bonchon’s best menu option in my opinion. They are strips of white meat, double fried and sauced. For whatever managerial reason, the wonderful strips have been replaced with boneless wings at this location. They’re dry, gross, probably come frozen, and the sauce doesn’t pair well with them. Some have compared them to KFC but I think that is not fair to KFC. These are more akin to frozen, microwave ready chicken wings. They were so bad I almost wanted to ask for a refund after I mistakenly ordered them thinking boneless wing was another name for the strips.
Anywhere else in the world: 8 wings should equal 8 wings, not half a wing and an inedible tip. Strips are worth their price, boneless wings are not (in fact I feel like I was robbed). I will no longer come to this location in anticipation of a better managed location...
Read moreit is 09/22/2022, a Thursday evening , my wife and I are exhausted from cleaning the house for 4 hours . We are looking forward to a tasty meal as our reward. My granddaughter is begging for a Bonchon chicken dinner. Normally, we go to Bonchon in Washington DC for our food. They consistently serve excellent food. But we did not want to face the rush hour trip into DC. So after reviewing Google reviews, we decided to take a gamble and placed a large order online at Waldorf Bonchon. The food was ready on time for the pick-up. However, their cooks need to go back to Bonchon University and take a refresher course:
Chicken wings & drums = C+/slightly overcooked, the meat was dry and stringy.
Fried Rice = C+/ This was a $13.00 entry. I am baffled that a Korean eatery would screw-up fried rice.
Bulgogi = C /whoever is preparing this needs to revisit the recipe. It tasted like a "Steak Um" in soy sauce. No garlic flavor! The meat did not taste like it was marinated.
Pot Stickers = B
Coleslaw = C-/ literally it was chopped cabbage. I think they forgot to add the coleslaw dressing
French Fries = A
When compared to the Wash DC Bonchon this was a hard failure. Originally, I had plan that our large order would last for two days. But, I packed-up the left-overs and sent them home with the grandkids , who have less developed taste palate and...
