I called a couple of weeks in advance, reserved a table, and ordered the foods for 12 people. Chef Jeff discussed each dish with me on the phone. I like the fact that Jeff shopped for the fresh ingredients after he received the orders. When I and my guests arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 PM tonight, the foods were served exactly as planned, one course after another. We had, in the following order, the smoked fish, marinated gluten, steamed pork dumplings (xiao long bao), pan fried buns, egg rolls, stir-fried shrimps, fish filet soup, braised pork shoulder, spare ribs with sweet and sour sauce, rice with salted pork belly and green veggie, stir-fried pork liver, steamed baby cabbage with ham, and finally the sweet wine soup with rice balls as dessert. Everything was exquisitely prepared and super-delicious. The xiao long bao are better than those in most Ding Tai Feng stores in the world. I have had Shanghainese dishes served in New York, Toronto, LA, San Francisco, Taipei and Shanghai. Jeffâs interpretation of Shanghainese food is definitely one of the best I have ever experienced! After dinner, I and my friends continued to sit at the table and chatted for an hour. Jeff and his wife stopped by occasionally to replenish our tea pots and to make friendly small talks, but never tried to rush us to vacate our table. It was an absolutely enjoyable...
Read more5/5 Jeff's is a place that you'd never expect to be as special as it is. Reservations must be made in advance and dine in is the only option. This is because Jeff makes everything fresh from scratch, guaranteeing an unbelievable culinary experience. Most will tell you to come here for the dumplings and that's good advice. However, my favorite dish is the custom shrimp wonton soup that I ordered since I don't eat pork. What every dish has in common is they don't disappoint when it comes to texture and flavor. You can always count on a hot pot of tea that pairs nicely with everything else. Whenever you're craving authentic Shanghainese, make the reservation.
Final comment is I think the place should be renamed "Mr. and Mrs. Jeff's Kitchen" since his wife is also an important part of the experience. Her level of service is outstanding. It's obvious the couple lives to please...

The worst place Iâve ever been to in my life for a restaurant. We felt terrible the moment we walked in. It was like the boss was trying to kick us out. He kept asking us, âHow do you know us?â and âWhy didnât you make a reservation?â
Normally, when I go to a restaurant, they at least offer some water. Donât even think about it here. They didnât even give us a seatâjust left us standing outside, even though the whole restaurant was empty.
The boss kept asking again and again where we heard about them. It honestly felt like they didnât want anyone to know about the place. It was strangeâlike they were hiding something , I even started wondering if they were doing something illegal, because it felt that abnormal for a restaurant.
Donât come to this place unless you want your...
