So I’ve been to a few BaekJeongs and this might be my favorite. I am Korean and love Korean food, but frankly, never liked cooking it myself. Especially at the price points.
This is where BaekJeong comes in. They are not the most expensive KBBQ, but it is on the high side and does what the high end KBBQ places should do. Cook for you and bring the sides and drinks!
What made this Baekjeong stand out was service. First of all Beatriz made checking in so easy and was super friendly. Was celebrating my twins 25 bday and I told them to be on time, because the other BaekJeongs were so strict on the whole party being there to seat you. I get it. If it were a weekend or a steakhouse, makes sense. But on a weekday, maybe not so much. Just ask us to order when we are seated, even if there is a straggler or two. Beatriz just told me to let her know when at least 1/2 the party was there and she would seat us. Mind you, I was just In Irvine the Wednesday before and they would not seat us because I was still on a call. We ended up getting seated while I was talking, then I walked out after I ordered to finish my call. We did not take extra time to eat and I was done pretty quick. Place was not packed.Similar experience in LA and La Habra when not packed. A hassle that wasn’t needed, because someone was probably following protocol and not given any latitude to use their judgement.
Back to RH. I mentioned the above and the manager Eddie told me they encourage their employees to use their best judgement. Everything thing else was pretty consistent to my prior experiencers at other locations, but this location set the right tone from the get go and makes all the difference. Shout out to Eddie the manager, Calvin the server and another manager named Calvin who stopped by to hear my praises and was thankful for the feedback. I hope he does the right thing and takes care of the great employees but also allow the staff to make the right call when not too busy. Btw - Calvin the server said something similar about getting the flex to do what they think is best. I ordered two different large combos for a group of six and he gave us the option for order of cooking. Never had that option before. I have my favorites. I realize they change grills for certain meats, but I like to end with my favorite meat and do understand the difference and try not to screw that up. But again, they get it here and other places just follow the rules. I tried my best to minimize grill changes but still meet my needs, which Calvin seemed to appreciate but also really didn’t care. Just wanted to make sure we were happy. Hmmmmm, isn’t that what restaurants used to do? Anyway, thanks for all the extra banchan and rice paper! Loved our experience and will make RH BaekJeong our new go to for KBBQ!!!!!
Pro tip: a large combo should feed four people with all the sides. Per Calvin’s :) We ordered two larges for six people, with two extra dishes and we killed it all! Combos are a great deal, but also order as you go! Four of use didn’t finish one large combo the week before with no extra dishes. Was it the service? Food? Being...
Read moreI in fact am a fan of this restaurant chain and have visited their other locations, this location particularly is just closer so I have been here multiple times. I have always considered this place a good spot to eat especially whenever my family comes to visit this would be my go-to place. Yesterday however I got a very bad experience. Our server, Calvin or Kelvin or idk I couldn't see his nametag properly was the worst server I've ever had. He was unfriendly to begin with and talked as if we were dumb when explaining and even taking our order. He looked like he was having a bad day or just didn't want to work in general. I was already feeling annoyed with his attitude but I let it go as long as our food were on the table, our purpose was to eat anyway so I tried to turn a blind eye by his unprofessional behavior. But then the meat arrive, this rude server prepared the grill with pork fat and of course still with attitude and he looked like he hated doing it he like scrubbed it roughly. And the freaking pork fat flee out of his tongs on fell on the egg liquid next to it. The egg was cooking, almost done so the temperature is not low. And it splashed my sister in the face! And you know what he did? He proceeded to calmly took the pork fat out of the egg, and continued to stir the meat on the grill????!!! I was so dumbfounded. And so I loudly say "OH MY GOD" then he finally walked away to get some more napkins and proceeded to say "I apologize for that" flatly, still with attitude, without looking at my sister who was still shock from the hot egg liquid attack, not apologizing to anyone. He was saying sorry to the meat he kept flipping for no reason. So after that when he came back to flip the meat I told him not to and I got it, I basically reject his service at that point. We did complain to the manager and they gave our appetizer for free, which I greatly appreciated. The other servers were kind and helpful so I wasn't going to write a review but even after the date has changed I still can't comprehend what happened last night. Unbelievable, unprofessional and it really...
Read moreMy family and I have been longtime fans of Baekjeong and are always impressed by the delicious food and the attentive, caring service that sets them apart.
Unfortunately, our most recent visit left us disappointed. While the food was consistently great and our server, Monica, did her absolute best, the overall experience was unfortunately overshadowed by uncomfortable interactions with the manager on duty, Angela.
Monica, who was clearly in training, seemed a bit nervous but worked hard to take care of us. She was also juggling a large party at the same time. Despite the pressure, she remained kind and professional. What disrupted our dining experience was Angela's behavior. Rather than supporting Monica, she stood just feet away, watching her closely throughout the meal. While I recognize the importance of hands-on training in a restaurant setting, the level of scrutiny felt excessive and made our party uncomfortable.
At one point, Angela began to help service our table, but visibly rolled her eyes at Monica as if frustrated that she had to step in. It felt unprofessional and unnecessary. One of the food items we had ordered was forgotten, and Angela chose to question Monica about it right in front of us, adding to the discomfort and making the situation feel even more awkward.
We still love Baekjeong and hope this was just an off night that comes with training new staff. Monica deserves praise for staying composed under pressure, but the management approach we witnessed did not reflect the supportive and positive environment we’ve come to associate...
