Not all Buddy's are equal. This one however is usually on point. It has been a while since I had been to this one and it did not disappoint. I had a crazy idea before we got there and I was able to fulfill my mind and belly and accomplish what I set out to do. When we first got there they were just clearing a booth for us so we barely waited for a table (this was probably just good timing). We went during lunch time around 12 pm which was their busiest time of day. We received are menus promptly and ordered waters. We did not have to wait long to put in our order either. What comes next was fairly disappointing - our food took forever to get too us. We ordered at maybe at 12:10ish and received our food after 12:47. Now this could be due to our order, we ordered two burgers and one 4 square pizza 🍕. Maybe the pizza took long to cook, but it was only a 4 square! In any case after we received our food we began crafting one of the best creations I have dreamed of. We were craving both burgers and pizza so we figured why not both? I had tried their burgers maybe 1-2 years ago and I had remembered it was a really good burger for a pizza joint and I knew this location had really good pizza so there were no more questions going forward. I removed my vegetables and proceeded to put the burger patty on one pizza square and added fries and the other pizza slice. My lunchmate did the same except she added all her condiments of lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, etc... Even though we waited a long time for our food, it was worth the wait. The fries although few in numbers were delicious. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and they were long cut which was awesome. They also had a really good seasoning on them; most the time I prefer no seasoning but this was superb. After we finished our food we could not find our waitress; when she dropped off our food she disappeared! She only came to check on us once and that was 1 min after she dropped it off and then she dipped! We waited about 10 mins for her slowly eating the remnants of our food (hoping to find more fries). I eventually asked another waitress to find her for us and we waited another 5 min for her to arrive. When she did arrive she also took a long time processing our bill. At this point we have been there for almost an hour and half when we wanted to only take an hour lunch. I wanted to speak to the manager in regards to my creation but she took so long that I could not wait for her to go find the manager and bring him back. Aside from the delay in getting our food and our slow waitress who probably went on a break of her own, we had a relatively good experience here. The food made it worth the wait. Other factors that contributed to my score is that we both asked for medium rare burgers and they came medium well which was not what we wanted but still tasted very good. Also, the shortage of fries...

I recently had the delightful experience of trying Detroit-style pizza for the first time at Buddy's Pizza, a renowned gem in Warren, Michigan. This beloved establishment is famous for its mouthwatering pizzas and its warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home.

What sets Detroit-style pizza apart is its thick, crispy crust, which somehow manages to be both airy and fluffy. It's the perfect canvas for a tantalizing array of toppings. Each slice is a flavor-packed journey, making it a must-try for any pizza enthusiast.

At Buddy's, one pizza that truly stole the show was the "Detroiter." This beauty features Wisconsin brick cheese and pepperoni artfully layered on top, kissed by a rich tomato basil sauce, with a sprinkle of shaved Parmesan and a Sicilian spice blend. All of this deliciousness comes in an 8-square serving for just $24.79.

Not to be outdone, the "Meat Deluxe" is a carnivore's dream come true. Also served in the signature 8-square format, this pizza boasts a hearty combination of Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, and seasoned ground beef, all for $28.79.

Buddy's Pizza has cultivated a loyal following, and it's easy to see why. The divine food and accommodating vibes make it a perfect spot to gather with friends. We also indulged in a starter of Buddy Bread—perfectly baked, sprinkled with garlic and Parmesan, and served with a savory marinara sauce for just $5.99. It was the ideal precursor to the pizza feast!

With more food than my group of five could handle in one sitting, it was a veritable pizza party! I can’t wait to return for another round of these...

I'm not from Detroit but Buddys was near my hotel and a quick stop to grab a Togo pizza. I have been twice and this is a combined posting from both experiences. I havent eaten thick crust in forever but being in Detroit figured I needed to give Detroit style a try. I'm pretty traditional with a plain ol pepperoni pizza and that is what I got. Crust was great almost buttery and perfectly cooked. Pepperoni is under cheese which is exactly how one of the places I like in Kansas City does it, but it was severely lacking in the amount of Pepperoni and cheese was an ok amount. I believe there is a good balance and I have had too much cheese on a pizza before and this was on the lighter side but good. Overall a good pizza but taking price into consideration it was only ok. Fast forward a couple weeks I find myself working late and remembering Buddys was ok I ordered a pie Togo but requested extra pepperoni. Got my pie headed to the hotel and found for sure there were extra pepperoni surprisingly on top but that works for me. I got the 1st piece and was extremely disappointed in the lack of cheese and even the sauce seemed more clumped in areas than previous pie. I literally pulled the cheese off the other half of pizza to get a decent amount. Anyway it was NOT worth the $20+ that I paid. Take this as you will and I'd say give them a try if you like a good buttery deep crust but maybe eat it there so if it's not up to par you can bring it up. They were busy both times and been around so I'm guessing they have good service and food typically but you have to be able to get a good to go pizza....

I stopped going to the Shelby location because the salad was skimpy on toppings and the pizza was hit-or-miss. Had bad experience with a manager at the Warren location a few years ago (for some reason yelling at my 80 year old father was reasonable - and then giving me a hard time for complaining about it was okay with her). She appears to be gone. The last order from Warren's Buddy's was decent (still a little skimpy on toppings). But, the order yesterday?!? The picture of the pizza shows the worst of it. I opened the bag with the salad - poorly topped. A handful of salami, a sparse smattering of smaller cut cheese and no ham (ok, one piece). Had that been it - I probably would've just said - "ok, Buddy's just doesn't do salads anymore." But, then I opened the pizza box.... My regular pepperoni and old world pepperoni was a joke. How does a restaurant like Buddy's let this leave the kitchen? We pay a premium for what is supposed to be the best Detroit Style Pizza, the legendary Buddy's. Some slices of the pizza were missing toppings completely - and the entire thing was cooked poorly. Again: it should have left the kitchen, this is an embarrassment to what Buddy's Pizza should be. I've gone to Buddy's as long as I can remember. Growing up in Hamtramck, where my best friend's Mom was a Buddy's Manager - it was a staple. I used to fold pizza boxes and play bocce ball there. What's become of this Detroit institution is just sad.
