Had the great opportunity of visiting Fairy Tea Room in Warren, RI yesterday with a friend who has been looking for a place just like this and was not disappointed. I arrived a few minutes late so didn't get the chance to take in the full atmosphere.
We wound up at a table for two near the merchandise area which was very well laid out. Surrounded by tea cups and tea pots added to the experience.
The place is owned and solely run by two very nice and personable women who do it all...bake, cook, serve, cleanup. Even with all this on their shoulders and a full house when we were there, they couldn't have been nice and friendlier. One owner seemed to handle all the prep work in the kitchen while the other was server. I couldn't decide on which tea and a specific sandwich and the server was so helpful describing options and adding her personal preferences and they were spot on.
The Afternoon Tea at $38 per person is well worth the cost. Between the tea and refills, and a triple decker server which had sandwiches, two types of scones and three types of dessert it was plenty of food and the quality was amazing. All but one item was handmade by this amazing duo.
When I finally left and paid at the front, I realized there was a nice welcome counter where you can pick up To Go orders and I got to watch a sandwich being assembled which was fun.
I read all the previous comments and am glad that the majority are like mine...5 Stars and praising this awesome shop and the women who run it. The few negative comments seemed around service which for me was perfect. The server was pleasant helping us order, explaining everything on the tower of treats and checking in on us at an appropriate interval.
I'm assuming many people would not engage in conversation with the owners but we did. We found out the shop is less than 3 months old, is owned and run by two women with no other staff, and they have ideas to do more but are taking it slow which is prudent.
So, if you happen to go, and you see the place is full, understand that it may take a bit of time but trust me the wait is worth it. And realize these two women are trying to do this all by themselves and I think they are starting off very well. Wish I could give more stars.
I definitely will...
Read moreThe flower boxes outside and indoor decor choices were lovely. The hostess kind. The food was quite tasty - there is a clearly a great baker at hand here! Some room for improvement: 1) If you make a reservation for the 1pm tea, tea should be served by 1:15pm. We waited about 30 minutes for tea. Also, all accroutrements for tea should be offered at the table: sugar/honey, creamer, lemon, etc - none were available at the table. 2) The price at about $35-40/pp is steep and the quantity of sandwiches were few. The salmon was more like a small toasted point, the other selections were about 1/4 of a sandwich - so in total, maybe you get 3/4 of a sandwich? Yes, there were confections as well - some scones and some other baked goods but it felt like kind of skimpy. 3) No one came to the table to ask how we were doing or that kind of thing. It was more like put the service on the table and then wait for the bill kind of deal. Would have like a kinder experience, particularly as we were celebrating a birthday. Suggestions: 1) Have someone assigned to the front of house (not behind the register) responsible for checking on all of the tables and ensuring that guests' needs are met; 2) Since you ask guests to pre order sandwiches, there is little waste - so please consider offering some extra sandwiches or just making a few more available on the serving tray. 3) Consider adding flowers and/or candles to each table to increase the ambiance. And consider expanding the selection of for sale items - such as some of the wonderful teas you have (Butterfly pea tea is a must!), confections to go, maybe even goods such a fun tea napkins. Also consider playing with the "fairy tea" theme, for example, for mother's day you could offer a mother-daughter fairy tea, and have matching fairy supplies (fairy crowns, wands, magic dust...) Hey, this is a new business and you have gotten some of it just right. A few tweaks and you may have something truly magical. The trick is to make guests feel special.
PS. I just checked out the pics from the other reviewers. Their meals looked quite a bit...
Read moreWhen I walked into the space I was quite impressed with the interior design - luxurious with rich colors and velvet seating. Upon arrival, I went straight to the counter where I was asked in a harsh tone "are you picking up something?". No, hello - no greeting at all. I said no, I want to pick up two gift certificates for holiday gifts. They said "we can't help you - you have to go to the website". I informed them, that I went to the website, and the people I will be giving these gift certificates to are older and do not have email. Their response was "well, just send them to yourself and print them out". Ok - I get that this is the process, but it was the wording, and the attitude. This for a place that is a higher priced venue charging $36 for 3 tiny sandwiches and some tea, should focus more on providing superior customer service, which is what you expect from a place like this. I don't see this place lasting very long if this is how they are treating customers.
I see another review does comment on the poor customer service, so i'm assuming...
