I've been to King Chef several times over the last 10 years and its been a good experience. Lately there have been some communication issues. If I ask for UN-sweet tea, no matter who the host is, they always hear sweet tea. They move so quickly I don't usually bother to correct them. But today I chose to make sure I got what I specifically asked for. Not everyone can carelessly drink sugary drinks, and I've wanted to be more conscious of that. On this day 03/08/2024 Approx. 1:30 pm The woman who was the host was very rude with me. I've chosen not to complain to the manager because I've worked customer service and we all have bad days. However, I've mostly strived for kindness in my work. This person gave me attitude for making sure my drink was correct. I've been run over my whole life and I was not going to take her attitude. What was supposed to be a pleasant meal with my partner was soured by the initial interaction with this host. Here's what happened. We arrived and waited at the front for 2-3 mins. It was somewhat busy but a short line. When it was our turn, she asked for our drinks, as they usually do. I had my partner go ahead and ask about the tea because I have anxiety and I'd been misunderstood several times. I think she explained something about the sweet tea being out anyway but she said it quickly and just as quickly turned. She basically ran away from us as she led us to our seats. I had to call out to get so I could clarify that she had our correct order. The rudest things she said to me were "we couldn't have given you sweet tea because we're out. Next time tell the waitress."
EXCUSE ME?!
YOU TOOK OUR DRINK ORDER. I thought this was YOUR JOB. Why not slow down to start with so there's no confusion? And WHY make things more difficult for your waitress when we could resolve this right here right now? You initially took our drink order didn't you? Someone thinks she's better than her coworkers because she's the host.
She then continued to lead us to a table while I struggled to keep my cool, complaining to my partner. Before complaining to my partner, I had given a response to her rudeness as she TURNED HER BACK to me. She had the nerve to ask what I was saying after ignoring my response to her rudeness. I told her "I was talking to him not you." I then excused myself to the restroom. Luckily we didn't have to deal with her at all for the rest of our meal. She seemed to be gone when we left.
While I've never had such a bad experience with king chef as I did today, it definitely affected my already lowered opinion of the restaurant.
They move too fast, they don't actually listen to you, and (another thing that happened today) the cooks stand over you watching you fill your plate so they can take the empty food tray. Actually, they do listen to you. But only once your seated and eating. I've caught the waitresses staring at several times, thinking I can't tell out of the corner of my eye that they quickly turned their head as I looked in their direction. Or even when I look at them, they continue to boldly stare.
Overall, it is what it is. I put up with king chef because it's not actually bad. As someone else stated, they do start hovering and give you the check after two plates. They don't want you to hang around. That said, the food is decent and especially if you're with people you love, it's a great experience. They are very attentive to refilling your drinks but leave you alone. Which I enjoy because of my anxiety. I recommend they improve their drink selection. Lemonade would be nice. I've definitely had soda when I'd rather not just so I wouldn't be a bother. We're planning to visit other buffets in the area instead of king chef.
FOR THE RECORD, I had politely explained my concerns to the host. I didn't become upset with her until she was rude and turned...
Read moreNo one in front of us when we arrived, the owner and hostess sat there and did not seat us for a 3-5 minutes. When she did the hostess looked over at an empty table and told us we could sit there, did not walk us over, or take drink orders. Had to get a high chair for my 10 month old myself. Had the owner and a cook standing at the kitchen door smirking and laughing looking at us, every time I looked at them they got quiet and diverted their eye's. They served people who were seated after us their drinks. It took about 10-15 minutes to get a glass of water.....wow. they were not busy, only the very front of the restaurant had people seated so the majority of the restaurant was empty. Our daughter is 4, almost 5 and has always ate free. This time they put on our receipt children 4-6 years old $4.50, we have ate here for years, and it is either 5 or 6 years old before you are supposed to pay for children. They have tried to charge us in the past until we told them our daughter is only 4. I believe the staring and smirks was because they were fraudulently charging us for our daughter. I will opt to drive 30-45 minutes to blue springs mo to go to a better Chinese restaurant in the future. Their food is usually okay, although some times it has sat wayyyyy too long, sushi being the main thing to watch out for. This has been okay as my wife loves chinese, and it has been cheap, but with bad service, feeling cheated, and having a laughing smirking audience to us trying to enjoy a meal we payed for I will opt to spend my money elseware where we are treated respectfuly. My wife still asked me to tip them which I did, but it will be the last time I'm a patron of their...
Read moreService was Poor, really did not make me feel like a valued customer. Felt like my money was wasted.
Rude Manager. She made unprofessional remarks, talked with a tone when she was talking to her employees, and did not help with customer service.
They have new hours/prices, and did not update this on the internet, nor on their Facebook page.
Asked for more food, and "King Chef Buffet" gave me poorly cooked cold food, when they returned. Was even told they were not refilling the Buffet, even after she said that more food can me made on request. Made me pay full prices for low quality.
Sushi was dry, and did not have anything fresh on display. Pieces were crusty, they fell apart, and they were not cold. Only had about 1/4 of the sushi bar filled. Then I was told that the sushi has been out for only a couple hours when it tasted stale.
Paid around $15 for food that was old and did not want to offer compensation. I needed to ask for "fresh food" and the manager really did not honor with my request as a paying customer. I was scowled and watched like a Hawk while I ate. Was disgusted with the food they served and had to spit out several pieces in a napkin because of the taste/flavor and the condition of their food.
I started with 4 plates and expected to eat all of it. Yet, I ended with 2 plates full of: cold, stale, and low quality pieces food.
However, they do have good service and food...at times. Just hope they can be more reliable. 🙏
