Came here today for lunch because I really wanted chowder and clam cakes. My friend, who is normally a seafood person ironically went with a chicken parm sandwich which would normally be what I would order if we were anywhere else in the area except Iggy's.
It was a beautiful day out, and this is a nice place to be on a sunny summer day. It's a great atmosphere inside. It's one of those places where everybody knows your name. Lots of locals. Lots of repeat customers. If you get both of those, you're a pretty good spot. Inside is very modern and clean. Great natural light from the outside and a view of the bay, where you can see quahoggers and other shell fishermen right outside and bringing in their catches. That's about as fresh as it's going to get. That's about as fresh as it's going to get.
Service is also good. Our waiter was super friendly,. professional and polite, he got the order in for drinks and for food quickly. Not as quick on refills, however. The food came out reasonably fast as well, even though it was very busy inside.
Here's where things go from a four or five star to a three star review. I would have to guess that a place like this makes a ton of clam cakes. If this was what I was basing everything on it would have been a 1 or 2 star review. The clam cakes were dark and overcooked in the outside. Inside was mushy and flavorless. It was pretty clear to me that the oil needed to be changed in the fryer and it was too hot as well. Very disappointing.
The Manhattan chowder was better than the almost inedible clam cakes. It was tasty. Plenty of clams. Small cut up potatoes and a tasty broth. The chicken parm sandwich got good reviews as far as sauce goes. That was the highlight of the sandwich from all reports. It looked a little too cheesy from where I was sitting. I heard the bread was soggy pretty quickly as well. They gave a very generous portion of pretty good fries along with the sandwich. I had a few of those and they were quite good.
Overall, I think it's a good, not great spot. Lots of friendly, happy people inside. Well appointed and super clean. A good menu with lots of choices. The food, however was average for most things and terrible for the clam cakes. I'm guessing on another day I would not have the same issue, but I probably won't be back anytime soon to find out. I would recommend that you try it for yourself and you will probably have a better...
Read moreThey tried to pass off burnt lobster as normal
My mother and I ate at Crow's Nest Restaurant in Warwick, RI on the evening of August 14, 2020. She ordered the baked, stuffed lobster and I ordered the stuffed shrimp. While we were waiting for our meal, we smelled something burning. The smell didn't last too long so we blew it off. When the waitress placed our meals in front of us, mine looked normal but my mother's baked, stuffed lobster looked burnt (the claws were dark-red to almost black). When she tried to crack open the claws, they wouldn't budge. She asked me to do it and I couldn't do it. The claws were hard as a rock. When we asked the waitress about it, she said it was normal and offered to either have the meat taken from the claws in the kitchen or give my mother another meal. Ever the trooper, my mother asked for the meat to be taken from the claws. While the waitress was in the kitchen hacksawing the claws open, my mother attempted to eat some of the meat in the tail. It was like rubber. It was at this point that I convinced my mother to get something else as the lobster was unedible. She was happy with her new meal. After we paid and left, I thought about what had happened. First off, they should never have brought out the lobster in that condition. They should have been embarrassed to serve something like that to their customer and to pass it off as normal was insulting. They also should never had charged us for her new meal. Their treatment of us speaks volumes about how much they value their customers. Not much, if you ask me. Sadly, I would never eat at Crow's Nest Restaurant again or suggest anyone...
Read moreMy husband and I went to eat at this restaurant at around 2:35 PM today and we were recommended by Sarah, our waitress, to order some appetizers since there was a Happy Hour Special so we ordered the calamari and oysters. The oysters were dry and not the best. When our bill came, we noticed that the discount was not applied and when we asked Sarah, she immediately apologized and brought it to her manager to apply the discount. However when she returned, the discount was not applied because her Manager said that it was not the right time for the discount to be applied and Sarah apologized saying that it was her fault and that she is still new to the job so she made an effort to go back to her manager again to apply the discount since she was the one who recommended us to order some appetizers based on the Happy Hour Special. When she came back, she apologized again and said that her Manager will not apply the discount because it was her fault that this issue occurred. I was very unhappy with how the manager handled this situation because they should have came to talk to me regarding this situation since I was not at fault and it was the waitress’ fault. I appreciated the effort that Sarah went through trying to fix her mistake but I wished that the manager came to talk to us personally to try to fix this situation rather than sending Sarah as the messenger. I was so unhappy with how this situation was resolved with the manager’s absence that I didn’t want to give a tip and when I got to my car I started thinking about the effort that Sarah went through trying to fix this situation that I went back to...
