Imagine eating here and getting food poisoning.
We visited this place after seeing their advertisements in a WhatsApp group and were excited to try it. Upon arrival, we went through the menu, only to find that some of the advertised items were unavailable. We understood that it’s a new place, so we decided to go ahead and order from the available options.
What We Ordered:
2 x Madras Filter Coffee
This was just a typical Indian coffee, not the authentic Madrasi Filter Coffee that was hyped (not as shown in the images or the taste is nothing like the traditional one) in the group. Given the expectations, it was disappointing.
2 x Masala Egg Puff’s
Before ordering, we asked the front desk staff if the puffs were fresh and recently made. He assured us they were and even mentioned that they always serve fresh items at their cafe. However, when we received them, it was clear they had been reheated in a microwave. We could tell because the base started falling apart and it became soggy, and the inside smelled bad, especially the egg yolk.
We reported this to the front desk, and he offered a refund, but we declined since I had already eaten one of the two egg puffs.
1 x Chicken Fried Rice
It was good and spicy, as requested. We even complimented the front desk staff about it at the time.
However, after a few hours of eating, we felt extremely drowsy and had to vomit everything. Honestly, we came here with expectations, but what we got was unhealthy and unhygienic food. We’re not sure what kind of oil they use, but it tasted awful. Additionally, the chicken in the fried rice had artificial food coloring.
1 x Madras Bakery Special Dilpasand
You can look at the images and clearly see whether it’s fresh or not. The one we received (shown in the image with a single piece of Dilpasand) was small and not worth the $4.50 price.
As we were about to leave, someone brought out more Dilpasands (shown in another picture with multiple pieces that is placed near the front desk guy). I asked the front desk person why I was given the smaller, and not the fresh one. Without hesitation, he told me I could take one from the fresh batch.
At first, I declined, thinking it was fine, but after leaving, I returned and asked if I could exchange the older. The staff member clearly said I could take a fresh one, so I did.
I also showed it to him that I am taking the replacement one because he told me that I could take one from the new batch.
Right after I picked up the replacement I mentioned that I will be tossing the older one into the trash. The front guy, acknowledged it and said it is okay and I tossed off the older Dilpasand into the trash when the front guy is watching it.
If the owner wants to verify, they can check the security camera footage. I have no reason to lie. As proof, I’m also attaching a copy of the bill, which shows that I originally paid for the first one (which was spoiled) before coming back for a replacement.
If you want to run a successful business, maintain proper food standards and serve only fresh food. If something is stale, stop selling it. Serve only what is good.
Will be never visiting this place back again.
Update after owner’s response: I appreciate your response, but I stand by my review as it is based on my personal experience, supported by images. The egg puff had a foul odor and was clearly reheated, not fresh. Experiencing nausea and vomiting after eating at your cafe is a serious concern that should not be dismissed. The Dilpasand issue also raises questions about consistency in food quality. If your cameras confirm the events, they should also show that I was never rude. Instead of accusing me of slander, I urge you to focus on food quality and customer satisfaction. Since you claim to pass health inspections, I will be reporting my experience to the local health department. I hope future customers have a better experience, and I look forward to seeing improvements in the quality and service...

Rating: ★★☆☆☆
I visited Madras Bakery in the Dublin area on a Wednesday evening after seeing recommendations about their dosa specials in a local WhatsApp group. Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable family dinner turned into a frustrating experience that I feel compelled to share.
Upon arrival, the first sign of trouble was immediately apparent: the restaurant was severely understaffed. The reception staff took approximately 10 minutes just to take our simple order of cheese dosa, mysore masala dosa, cut mirchi bhajji, pastry, and filter coffee ( for dine in) and egg dum biryani (to go). While I understand staffing challenges in the restaurant industry, this level of delay for basic order-taking was concerning.
The staff did warn us about a 20-25 minute wait due to "rush hour," which seemed reasonable. We decided to have our 9-year-old start with a Frooti drink and the pastry while we waited. Our payment receipt was timestamped at 6:39 PM, marking the official start of our wait.
What followed was a series of delays and excuses. After multiple inquiries about our order status, at 7:25 PM – nearly 50 minutes after ordering – we were informed of "some confusion" and told to expect another 15-30 minute wait. Meanwhile, we observed customers who arrived after us receiving their food, which was particularly frustrating.
By this point, our daughter was understandably impatient, and I requested a refund. The staff then claimed our cheese dosa was "almost ready" and convinced us to stay. The cheese dosa and Mysore masala dosa finally arrived at exactly one hour after ordering. When we inquired about the mirchi bhajji, we were told they had run out of the mixture and offered onion bhajji instead, which would require additional waiting time.
At this point, I requested they replace the missing items with two pastries so we could finally leave. I also ordered egg dum biryani to go for my husband, which was another disappointment – it tasted like stir-fried rice with boiled eggs added, bearing no resemblance to authentic biryani.
While I will acknowledge that the dosas, when they finally arrived, were good, the quality of the food cannot compensate for the extremely poor service and complete lack of accountability in order processing. The kitchen appeared disorganized, with no system to track orders or prioritize customers based on wait time.
For a restaurant that specializes in South Indian cuisine and promotes dosa specials, the excessive wait times and inventory issues suggest fundamental operational problems that need addressing. I cannot recommend Madras Bakery Dublin until they resolve these serious service issues, regardless of their...
