House of Japan was an absolutely delightful find. It was opposite Hyatt Place in Dublin, OH. It's a steakhouse and Sushi place.
Inside, it's a huge square hall with multiple hibachi grills. The decor and lighting gave a kind of weird dungeon-like feel, as if we were sitting in a video-game-esque set. If there was anything that didn't go with the overall expy, it was the decor and lighting.
The menu is extensive and the prices are low! And that shock starts with the prices of Sake and keeps increasing in intensity until you see Sushi prices, which are very reasonable.
We ordered a Hibachi Kalamari (salad, mushroom soup included), California Roll, and Spider Roll, a Miso soup, Sam Adams etc. The waitress cautioned us that Calamari was a small portion but we didn't pay heed. The hibachi chef was skilled at his game. Kalamari was well-grilled and the overall Hibachi dish with veggies and rice was HUGE for one person. Portions here are GENEROUS. We were glad we didn't pay heed to the waitress! The mushroom soup was brothy, Miso soup was good, rolls were excellent and Sam Adams was... well... Sam Adams! Didn't get to taste Sake due to some temporary personal restrictions :-(
This set us back by about $40, extremely reasonable for the quality of the good and the reputation of the place. 20% tip was well deserved here. The hibachi chef was skilled both in his craft and interaction: very funny and engaging in conversation while he did his thing.
Excellent evening overall. A little weird and jaded dungeon-esque decor but maybe it added to the warm glow we felt when we...
Read moreDecided to try this place for the first time Saturday Oct 2. First off the place was packed, which for a new patron it excited me that food and " the show" must be good. Man was I wrong. For the price you pay it is no way near worth it. You can barely hear anyone else at the table. The chef made fire twice, with no interaction at all to the patrons. The server refused, and I mean refused to go over the menu with us when we told her it was our first time. We got a ugh, scan the qr code and there you go. When the food was finally prepared the chicken was so dry it was almost to the point of eating rubber. My wife did state that her filet was cooked well. Portions to all guests were not even close to equal as well when it came to rice and amount of protein.
When it comes to pricing. Fried RICE is NOT included in the high prices! In all honesty with talking to the patron next to me he stated who doesn't get fried rice? Probably a select few, but it should be included in the price like the other Japanese steak houses.
Finally when you ask for no shrimp sampler, and no vegetables, due to allergies of a child, you would think they would take this into consideration while cooking. Nope. Kept using the same spatula and fork/ knife the entire time. Didn't ever clean the surface in between like other Japanese steak houses do.
I will not be going back. This place was very well staffed, but severely lacks on customer service and understanding. I would compare this to gengi go quality, but prices of a Cameron...
Read moreConvenient place to walk to for dinner when staying at area hotels. Several surrounding the establishment. Menus are all out of date though and have prices crossed off. They tell you that when they hand you the menu, but don't inform you what the prices are. From what I could gather the two times I visited this past week for lunch and dinner, they are roughly $3-$4 more than what's on the menu. Filet dinner portion hibachi ran over $40 with tip and upcharge for fried rice (costs $2 extra). Portions in comparison to other hibachi restaurants, also less. When I visited for lunch, I was told they do not carry clear/mushroom soup, even though it was blatantly on the dinner menu and I had enjoyed it two evenings prior. She said they only serve miso soup. With lunch you also only get salad or soup, not both. The taste and quality of food seemed decent. The ginger dressing was not like others I've had. The filet was cooked perfectly and the fried rice didn't even dry out as leftovers. Yum yum sauce was provided at dinner, but we had to ask for it at lunch. There wasn't much overall flair for what I'd typically see at my local hibachi spot though. No sake squirted across the grill, no chef knife action, and no rice thrown to see if you catch it, but nevertheless they did do the onion fire volcano. The chefs were all very personable and accommodating. If they'd fix their menus with correct pricing, and create more of an overall hibachi flair as I would typically expect, I'd...
