Ty Ginger Asian Bistro 泰潮點心 — Restaurant in Washington Township

Since the start of Covid, we have supported local businesses as much as possible and once Thai Ginger was open for service again we were straight their. Up until 2 weeks ago, everything has been great.

2 weeks ago, we noticed that it was starting to get very busy and I’d say a little to many people, were a little to close for my liking when seated, since we are still in Covid. It took over 40mins to get my main meal and when I complained the male server said, we are busy over and over. I was not happy at all and did not leave a tip, which is very rare for me as I always leave min 20%.

Last night, we thought we should give them a 2nd chance and we were seated and had to wait 10mins before anyone came over to serve us. We firstly wanted the table cleaned as we were seated at a dirty table which was bad enough in Covid, but then when I said, will you be able to serve us on time, since I waited 40mins for my meal last time the same server said ‘ your the one who didn’t leave a tip last time, NO, I can not say you will be served in time as we are busy’!!!!

We stood up, I told the server what I thought of his terrible service and that if you can not serve the people you seat, then don’t be greedy and ask people to wait ( like other restaurants do ) I told the manager at the front desk the same thing, she didn’t seem to care much either.

We walked out, shocked at the absolutely terrible service and bad attitude. We will not be going back and this is a classic case of a greedy, money focused business. Service is king, that’s how you build a business and you always respect your customers.

We will not be going back ever again and I will be reporting them to health & safety for unclean Covid practices. Just a terrible...

I love Dim Sum and often go back to Chicago to have dim sum in Chinatown. I'm getting ready to make a day trip to visit the Chinese bakeries. I've got many years of enjoying dim sum as experience.

Their steamed items are good. I'm not a fan of their pricing system on the menu for dim sum items.

Some items were vastly more expensive than I expected and others were about where I expected given the current market.

The flavor on nearly everything was good. They didn't have any baked items, but we did go on a weekday.** I was not a fan of the calamari and normally I love it. This batch was very rubbery and didn't taste good. I am a huge fan of Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, but this batch was far too salty. It was disappointing. Their BBQ pork was excellent, we will absolutely get that again! Also their beef fried rice was delicate and perfect - not greasy and well seasoned without going overboard.

I know the Chinese names for most of the dim sum dishes, but not the way to spell them, please excuse my poor spelling - ha gow was fabulous, ham su gwok was not greasy and well filled, the shu mai were excellent, the wu gwok was the best I've had outside of Chinatown - not greasy, flavorful, good balance of taro to filling (I prefer more taro like this had).

*Today (7/28/24) we got to try the baked char siu bao and the baked custard buns! The custard buns were quite good. The char siu ordered separately is great, but in the bun it is different. They aren't using the same stuff in the baked buns. Very disappointed. I am *again headed back to Chicago for dim sum and visiting the bakeries so I won't be...

As you can tell, I don't review or comment very often.

But, today I had a very bad experience with one of the waitress there. My family went to have dim sum with another family, 6 adults and 2 one-year-olds. We had a big breakfast and we want to eat early so kids don't need to miss their naps. So, we did not end up ordering a lot. But, when we ask for the bill, the waitress was very surprised (and extremely unhappy) that our paper showed that we didn't order much. And she kept telling others that we have ordered a lot, and our paper may be incorrect. I overheard this when they were whispering in Chinese and obviously I can understand that language. This got everyone's attention. All the waitresses and managers were looking at our bill. I asked them what is going on they said, it's ok, and we'll have our bill back. I want to tell them that we came with a full stomach and we didn't order much. Since they said nothing is wrong, I have no way to ask them what happened. Even if there is a mistake, there is no reason to add anything to our bill and you shouldn't charge us because of the mistakes made by your people. They gave us a bill with no breakdown in detail, only a total amount. We have no idea what they have done to our bill.

Also, food there was mediocre, nothing surprisingly good, but something were surprisingly bad. The only thing good is the environment. I gave a 2 stars and won't recommend to any other friend or come again...
