Sundays are family days for us—slow, easy, and all about good vibes. This Sunday, we finally made it to 2Fifty BBQ in DC! I’ve been a fan since their Riverdale, MD location but just hadn’t found the time to visit their new spot. Well, we made it.
Parking? Typical DC street parking, but we scored a spot right in front (a Sunday miracle). Kingston didn’t partake since he’s vegan and, honestly, he snoozed through most of the visit because we came during nap time. Lucky guy skipped straight to the food coma part of the meal.
Now, let’s talk vibes. The decor is a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern industrial flair. The front dining area has picnic-style wooden tables and benches that scream “let’s eat and chill.” Add to that the patterned tiles, hanging light bulbs, and exposed ceiling beams, and you’ve got a space that feels stylish but cozy. It’s like they wanted you to feel like you’re at a chic backyard BBQ.
The Food: We already knew bae wanted brisket before we even got there. So, we ordered: • Brisket • Chicken Leg Quarter • Sweet Potato Mash • Esquites (Corn Salad) • Fountain Drink
The total was around $45—don’t quote me on that, but close enough. We grabbed a seat in the dining room area past the restrooms, and every table was stocked with BBQ sauce (yes, plural).
Now, here’s the tea: • Brisket: Tender, juicy, and packed with smoky flavor. Bae complained about the fat, but let’s be real—that’s where the flavor lives. • Chicken Leg Quarter: The smoky taste gave me cookout vibes, and that little squirt of magic juice they drizzle on top? Chef’s kiss. It made the skin glisten and taste amazing. • Sweet Potato Mash: Sweet but not overly so—just the right balance. It was comforting without being cloying. • Esquites: Loaded with flavor! The red onions and cilantro brought the heat, and it had just enough kick to keep things interesting.
And the BBQ sauces? Bae, who’s an island man thats use to heat, said the hot wasn’t that spicy. Lies. It definitely had a kick to it. Not unbearable though.
We didn’t finish everything (half the meats, most of the mash, and some corn salad came home with us), but trust me, every bite was memorable.
Final Verdict? Will I be back? Is that even a question? 2Fifty BBQ serves quality food with fantastic flavors, and the ambiance makes it...
Read moreI’ll start by saying the food was amazing! If you are looking for a great taste of southern BBQ, this is some of the best you will find in DC. That being said, my experience was not comparable to the quality of my meal.
To ensure my party of 3 could all enjoy a meal I preordered ahead of time. Being that it was a preorder (with no option for dine in), I was aware that my food would be prepared for takeout. Upon arrival I head to the pickup station only to be ignored by the cashier as she assists several other parties. For this issue, I suggest there be another option for pickup locations given that the website encourages preorders. When I get the cashiers attention I request my pickup order and she mumbles something along the lines of “We’re putting it together.” With no further guidance on where to wait or the progress of my order (which I was precisely on time for), I ask if its possible to have the meal prepared as a dine-in, thinking that may be easier and quicker for both the team and I. To this question, the cashier says she’ll have to ask, which I have no problem with, if it’s not possible I would take it to go as well. When the food is ready, a different employee addresses us to emphasize that this is an exception and they typically only prepare preorders as take out, as though I demanded it to be put on a tray. I responded with thank you out of appreciation but truthfully there was very little communication and the second employee who addressed me seemed irritated as though I had an attitude or made a highly unconventional request.
The remainder of our interactions with the staff were similar, with everyone of my party being respectful and appreciative, only to be met with irritation and annoyance. I understand working in the service industry, especially on a holiday weekend but it is unacceptable and entirely unprofessional to respond to excited and positive customers in such a way. Put on your service face or don’t work holidays!
That all said, I loved the food and I would like to come back again but after reading the Owners’ replies to reviews it seems that customer service and hospitality are not one of the core values of this establishment. Thank you for the...
Read moreResponse to owner(s) remarks: I understand trying to save face when there are reviews that may reflect negatively on the business. But please do not patronize customers when they leave an honest review. Your team did not make “every effort” to assist me and saying they came to my table to check-in on me is simply not true. I sat outside and not once did any staff member exit the restaurant or make any inquiries. Moreover, the attitude of your staff was off-putting from the jump. My review was not to attack your business but simply to share my experience and shed light. And based on some of the other reviews, it appears I’m not the only person who had this same experience. Unfortunate situation all around but hopefully you use the feedback to improve the overall acumen of your business. —————————— I was super excited to try the food here after hearing about it on social media. It’s 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, and I just finished my meal. For starters, the service that I received was subpar and underwhelming. They put my food in to-go boxes when I informed the man at the meat counter that I was dining in. I had to remind them to add jalapeños to my side of beans. Staff barely smiled and they appeared irritable as I asked them questions about the menu. Given that it was my first time there, I expected more patience and for them to be a bit more understanding instead of glaring at me. I was literally the ONLY one in line. I’m assuming they had a long day and were ready to go home?
Aside from rude staff and poor customer service, the food was just ok. And honestly, I’m not sure how this place has 4.7 stars. The ribs were tender though but my sides lacked flavor. And don’t get me started on the potato salad. Omg, it was truly awful. There was way too much mustard in it. In fact, that’s literally all I could taste. Smh - I spent over $50 on my meal and it was NOT worth that price. A complete and total rip off. I will not be returning after this experience but I do like the concept of the restaurant, and I do believe there’s a lot of potential here. Hopefully the manager will take heed and make the necessary...
