Get in, buckle up, and hold on, because I am about to take you on my sartorial journey with Brimble & Clark. Make no mistake, this is not merely a purchase. It is an experience. Worth it? EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY. Besides, when it comes to your appearance and stylistic options, I am a firm believer that you get for which you pay. Now, back to the story...
I retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in September 2020, and I knew I would have to upgrade my wardrobe to fit my upcoming life as a civilian. I researched extensively into the sartorial world, learned quite a bit, and concluded that I would not settle for looking like the average, run-of-the-mill guy in a dumpy, "tailored", off-the-rack suit (like every other guy in DC who shops at Men's Warehouse or any department store). I had purchased suits before from places like Alton Lane, but going to Brimble & Clark felt like graduating to a whole new level. Ever since my first visit in Brimble & Clark's DC office, it has been nothing short of an epic journey inside a world of head-turning, compliments, and envious glances.
I will not bother to explain the experience of the multiple fitting sessions, but I will say it is the red carpet treatment. Everything is about you from the moment you walk in the door. No stone is left unturned, and Sim and his staff are truly artists in their approach to taking your input and vision and making it an impeccable stylistic reality. I work out often and my proportions have always given tailors trouble to crack the code on my suits. This is not the case with Brimble & Clark. Sim and his staff know exactly what they're doing and everything fits perfectly.
From Brimble & Clark, I now own five suits, one tuxedo (pictured here), an overcoat, six ties, and several shirts. They are easily the best articles in my closet, and I am partial to my shoe collection. Simply put, I will not purchase a suit from anywhere else. Period. The feeling I get when wearing Sim's suits have only been replicated by the feeling of wearing my Marine Corps Dress Blues. Without fail, each time I go out in one of Sim's suits, heads turn! Countless times I have been randomly approached by men and women alike in a coffee lines, hotel lobbies, happy hours, or in the office to compliment me on my suits. That has never, and will never, happen to anyone wearing an off-the-rack, "tailored" suit.
Bottom line, unless you are going somewhere like Saville Row in London or Cifonelli in Paris, you will not find a better suit in the area, especially for the price and attention given by Sim and his staff. You would pay at least double the price, and I would still get more...
Read moreI will ALWAYS remember the way I felt the wearing a Brimble & Clark suit in public for the first time--absolutely incredible!
Sim took my suit, tux, and dress-shirt game from baggy, off-the-rack of meh 2s and 3s, to a closet full of sharp, exquisitely tailored, and custom one-of-a-kind absolute 10s.
Prior to finding Sim none of my business attire or formal wear was remarkable in any way--it served its purpose and I wasn't ever out of place, but I wasn't particularly proud of my clothes and I certainly didn't stand out in the crowd. But the first time I wore one of Sim's suits out I received one unsolicited compliment after another from complete strangers and acquaintances alike. I finally looked and felt like a million bucks and my confidence went through the roof. I've been buying my suits from Sim ever since, and I feel the same way every time I put one on. The quality of Brimble & Clark's suits is also second to none too. I'm still wearing the same suits and shirts I bought from him over six years ago.
Beyond just the clothes themselves, the shopping and fitting experience was a breath of fresh air. Sim has truly turned his craft into a well-honed and efficient art form. Like most people in DC, I'm pretty busy... I don't have countless hours to spend taking initial measurements and then standing for fitting after fitting while different parts of my suits are adjusted and readjusted over and over again. And fortunately, with Sim I didn't have to. Each time I buy a new suit or shirt Sim and I talk about what I need/want and then we sit down with loads of fabrics, designs, and samples that Sim uses to make recommendations and help me to find exactly what I'm looking for--Sim has probably forgotten more about fashion and design than most of us will ever know and it shows... his advice and recommendations are always right on target. A few weeks later my suits are ready for an initial fitting, and in all honesty, I've never needed more than two fittings for any piece.
I can't endorse Brimble & Clark highly enough. When you want to look and feel your very best, give them a call. You...
Read moreI recently lost a good amount of weight and was looking for a bespoke tailor to revamp my wardrobe. Based on the positive reviews I emailed brimble & clark and asked what I thought were some pretty basic questions about their process, construction, and price. Sim started out fairly attentive, but was oddly evasive about answering certain questions. I asked him where the suits were made and he said "off-site" and pumped up the fact that the head cutter was from Naples. I kept pressing him and he said they were made in Asia before finally specifying China, after I asked 4 times. He quoted me a price of $3,200 - $3,500 for the Chinese make and said he could also make in Italy starting at $5,200. Here's the real kicker - I wanted to confirm that his suits were actually bespoke and he told me they can do bespoke only for the Italian make, but that it would double the price! $10,000! That's pricey even by Saville Row standards. So if you're looking for a $3,000 non-bespoke Chinese suit designed and measured by a lawyer, Sim's your man. I also learned that if you ask what I would think are pretty basic questions, Sim will accuse you of being a double agent working for one of his competitors, even though he said in a previous email "with due respect to those makers, it would not be accurate to call them competitors". I really can't get my head around how this charlatan has convinced so many people...
