Exceptional service and cozy experience
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Compass Coffee on 8th street not to be confused with 7th down the street. From the moment I walked in , I felt welcomed by the friendly staff , who were both attentive and genuinely happy. Its rare to find a place where the service is so personal. They knew everyone’s order already. The cafe stands out in that regard.
I also appreciated the little touches , like the inviting decor and relaxing background music.

Interesting sandwiches, brodys(named after a Dutch sandwich) and cake things. Help your self water. There is a young group on computers, some spill over from Howard, but accommodation is uncomfortable. Space is bright light clean and yet seats are uncomfortable. Upturn on 7th street offers armchairs and coffee is still good, they are the cupcake specialists, but even more Howard. Read moreAs a HUGE DC fanatic, I am so proud of DC born Compass Coffee expanding. This location is the second location of it's mothership just a few blocks away and located in The Shay in Shaw. It's a beautiful space with a very different feel from the original. This new location has a trendy, urban feel to it with upstairs seating and exposed pipes. It's very urban.
Like the original location, the coffee and food is amazing and the staff friendly. There's free wifi. This location also offers grab and go food like salads (kale salad, etc).
