Copy Cat is one of my all-time favorite bars in DC; I honestly cannot compare it to any other bar and I am an EXTREME bar hopper. Now to be fair, I live near it so it’s easy to go more and thus experience it more. But I also live near other local bars and Copycat tops them all.
First, the drinks. I LOVE the creativity behind all of the drinks and the drink menu. I also love the constant switching up on drinks. And if you are one of those who prefer the same drinks all the time, don’t worry: Copycat allows you to order any drink from any past menu they have ever had and they also keep all past menus up on their website.
Now I love a good cosmo and almost everywhere I go I like to challenge the bar to make me their version of a cosmo( depending on what liquors they have, etc). Baby, copycat amazes me EVERY SINGLE TIME. I almost always order a cosmo and one or two of the drinks on the menu when I visit.
It amazes me how busy these bartenders can be and yet still manage to make sure I’m taken care of and can take the time to recommend drinks to me. The music is fairly loud and together with the tight space, one would assume the bartenders and servers would be overwhelmed. But no. They nail it every time and I am always satisfied.
So why the one star off for atmosphere? Honestly, I should keep it five, but I am NOT a fan of how loud the music is though I AM a fan of the playlist hahaha. I know it isn’t a speak easy, but most of my friends are very soft spoken and we almost always find ourselves yelling our conversations at one another. This is literally the ONLY issue I have. Oh, and that they don’t have a happy hour menu. That’s all though.
Give Copycat a go. Then give it another go. It will be worth it. Trust me.
A few tips:
1). Don’t even think about bringing a group. The biggest you can bring is maybe 6, and you will be headed downstairs. (Unless you get lucky and get the large table upstairs in the back). Downstairs is not the vibe. You want the upstairs experience. Trust me on this.
2). You’ll be spending a pretty penny on food and drinks. All drinks on the drink menu all START at $17. While they’re worth it, please don’t expect to spend only $20 unless you go and stand at the bar, buy one drink, and leave. That’s literally all you’re gonna get.
3). Try to get a spot by the window if you can. I love the vibe there and many people dart towards the window when they walk in. Idk what it is, but I love it.
4). While the food is good, sometimes it can come out a bit cold. This may be due to the fact that the kitchen is downstairs and so the servers are traveling a bit and the plates are small. This also may be due to servers possibly forgetting the food was ordered; I have been here several times and half the times I’ve been, my food came out lukewarm. I’m sure there is a reason behind this but yeah. And it’s not always the case,...

It was my first time here tonight into the morning! This venue was suggested by a local who frequents this location.
Sooo we walked in ..it was late..I want to say we were close to..if not midnight at this point..still cool and early for DC.
So we left this great industry event at City Winery to have a decent good time (low key vibes) here at Copy Cat & Co.
Wow. Walked up the stairs straight to bar...asked the bartender (ROB) what are his popular drinks...he immediately dimisses me and directs me to the chalkboard menu. I'm used to an engaging bartender. No formal menu..for drinks or food..no hospitality...NOTHING. ALL this so he can keep his convo going with his boy at the bar (to my left)...to add insult to injury..he furthered his unwillingness to service us..by bypassing us ..and turning his back..and not even acknowledging we were there to tend to patrons who had just arrived ..SMH...THEN he continues on his LONG convo with another customer THE ENTIRE time. Ignores his customers the WHOLE time..lol CRAZY to keep chatting with his boy... I had one drink..only to appease the ladies I was with ...The drink was good (not taking this away from him) but his customer service was TRASH!!! annd that was my last drink...as my friends had another. JP the Bar-Back was sooooo hospitable , welcoming and attentative!!! Its like he knew the bartender was being a jerk! He smiled and was very attentive, which was refreshing for the moment...he was a breath of fresh air. I wish we moved after we ordered our items. Thank you JP!! He's the only reason this review holds any weight...because ROB's hospitality was TRASH!! Thank you JP for my well SERVED cup of water!!! This is why I tipped you!! Yes! Customer service goes a looonnnng way!
In business..you have to treat everyone with decency and hospitality..thats the only way that makes sense...and that's what makes US COME BACK!!
I wouldn't say I would never come back..but it would probably be a VERY VERY VERY long time before I do I'm allergic to bad energy.......who am I kidding. I won't be back.
People pay for experiences, I can make my drink at home and save my money and avoid the disrespect. Yes I was so blow away by his behavior...I started this review right there. That's not the way you tend to PAYING customers. Note to Management.
Great venue....
Read moreI love CopyCat. They do have vegan-friendly options. Their veggie bao buns are delicious! Stuffed only with veggies and noodles, with a bit of soy sauce for dipping, it is definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun, with their multi-coloured Maneki-neko cat paintings on the walls, painted by a local artist, and the front being tall glass windows with bar seating facing the glass so that you can look out onto the busy H St. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because on my last visit there, I went with my best friend. We ordered two separate orders, but paid under one check. I advised that mine would be separate because I'm vegan, and B had ordered a meat kabob dish. However, when the order came out, the order was all in one box; my buns were in there underneath his kabobs and they were touching (I laughed so hard as I wrote that!!). As a vegan, that made my food inedible. So I advised the cashier and he tried to just take the buns out and separate them. However, when I advised that I still could not eat them because the meat actually touched, he got a bad attitude and went and got the chef (and/or owner?), and they tried to say that I didn't let them know that it was separate. However, if I did not ask for it in the same box, and one order was VEGGIE, why would you put them in the same box? Anyway, despite the bad attitudes and energy the cashier exuded, it did not take away from the delicious food that was thereafter cooked and placed into a separate container for me. They also have a bar and offer drinks, though I have never tried them, but from the names and photos I've seen of them, they look good! I truly enjoy CopyCat's veggie bao buns and potstickers, as well as the atmosphere and artwork, so I highly recommend dropping in...
