Last night after Crab Boss sent us on our way we went to the Haymaker bar. It’s in the H street neighborhood. When I walk past this place, I always wanna try. Well, they didn’t disappoint. Probably the. Eat bar food I had I a very long time. Cocktail was a frozen tropical slushee with tequila. Highly recommended even though I didn’t finish it. Plus is didn’t taste or smell like tequila. YAy me! Tater tots, I forgot their name for it. But baybeee they are so good! Has bacon and cheese. Didn’t try the sauces cuz I’m greedy. We stopped in the try the Cajun shrimp bowl. That’s what initially pulled us in. Bursting with savor and flavor. Please try! Wings were crispy and full of flavor. If you’re a small wing eater, they’re a go. Just the right size. Vibes. The ambiance was on point. Dimly lit, chill playlist and young diverse crowd. Our server Chai was soooo nice!

We happened upon this place when we were in the area after dinner. It was a Saturday night and it was surprisingly pretty quiet when we arrived, which I think was around 9pm. We sat at the bar near the back and were immediately greeted. The bartenders were super kind and quick. They chatted with us, but didn't linger. It was a great mix. They also ensured our drinks, including our water, were always full. They also brought out some snacks (on the house) for us. Music was on, but not too loud. We stayed for awhile, and pretty soon we looked up and were like, oh my gosh, this place is packed! Pretty soon there were people everywhere and it was so loud. We decided at that point we wanted to head out, but the bartenders still made sure to say goodbye. We will definitely be back when we are back in DC. Great vibes, atmosphere, and service!

Customer service was not right from the start and never warmed up. The inside is rather on the dark side for décor but is nice for a drink and go. Ordered the ceviche which was very sweet and didn't taste like ceviche more like a mango salsa. The kale salad was very soggy and lacked overall flavor. The hot honey shrimp were flavorful but due to the service would not return or recommend.

The Haymaker is a great cocktail bar and has some of the best and hardest working bartenders in DC. When we arrived, the bar counter seats were almost full. Three cocktails in and the whole place was packed with 90/95% having cocktails, our refills still came quickly. Why only 4 star? They have changed the food menu and not for the better. The dumplings are still great. We also had the quesadilla. My wife liked it, I thought it was generic. We both thought the loaded tots were a major fail, the 'load', what little there was of it, had all fallen off and was in the bottom of the bowl. The draft beer choice is also weak, with Goose Island being their premium beer. I hope they change up their menu...
