This place is middle tier boba imo, below gong cha and spot of tea, but similar to Kung fu tea. I got an oolong milk tea and small chicken bun (they were out of pork). I worry that this store won't last long with its location but I really want them to succeed!
Here's what I would like to see improved: It would be nice to have written descriptions on the wall of some of the teas that are custom to this location. I was a bit too shy to ask, so I ended up ordering a regular oolong. Maybe have a young native English speaker look through the menu and say if any of them sound awkward. The oolong was pretty weak, mostly just non dairy creamy flavor. I know it's more expensive to have strong tea, but weak tea just makes me not want to come back. The boba was well cooked though, nice and chewy. The boba could be a little sweeter. The chicken bun was cold, wrapped in plastic wrap, and then put into a foam container. Lots of people in DC try to avoid plastic waste, so maybe ask before putting it in the foam container. Also, is it possible to have an option to heat up the bun, maybe a steamer in the back?? I didn't love eating it cold and would be willing to wait. It was pretty tasty though, I'm guessing it came from the supermarket Consider taking the warning labels off of the trash can, to look more professional!
My boba standards are pretty high and there aren't any good boba places near me in Petworth. I think this place could improve a lot, but I wanted to give them 5 stars anyways. I'm Chinese and grew up drinking lots of boba so I want...
Read moreJust stopped in for bai but was very disappointed by the experience. The woman working the counter was lovely but the practices around the bar confuse me. I said yes when asked whether I’d like the bao warmed up. After warming the bao in the microwave, the employee proceeded to rewrap them in cellophane, causing me to question whether they’d been warmed in the plastic. Removing hot from plastic is… not fun and makes me worry about the temperature causing the plastic to cling to the food.
Also, the paper on the bottom of the bao were fused to the buns, creating another layer of frustration, to the point where I just ended up throwing them both away.
The customer service was great and I’d like to come back to try the banh mi, but my experience with the bao was so discouraging I recommend you just get them at room temperature and warm...
Read moreBeen here quite a few times and it’s my absolute favorite boba spot in the city! I’m a creature of habit but I can’t help but get excited by the amount of options this shop offers. I always try something different and so far, I haven’t been disappointed. I’ve tried the Mermaid Latte (the blue one) and it had a great butterfly pea tea and coconut flavor. Another fave is the Honeydew milk tea! Super creamy and flavorful! Another fave is the Mango Milk Tea! Milky and fruity! The shop is small but clean and the staff seemed friendly. The wait is never too long. Only complaint is the price. Definitely more expensive than some other competitor boba shops but since it’s a small business, I don’t mind too much....
