Really fun place with a cool atmosphere. We went for a comedy brunch for my cousin's birthday which was incredible. Great comics, including a woman we had just seen the night before at another show in Baltimore, but she had showed up with a totally new set, which was dope because comics frequently repeat bits.
They were able to seat all 8 of us together, which was awesome.
Some of the food was excellent, standout was the breakfast burrito. We all shared some of the usual apps for the table, they were good. The veggie burger is made in house and was super flavorful. My only qualm with it was it lacked enough binding agent to hold it together while eating. It was so good though, I picked up all the pieces off the plate to not miss anything. That being said, It was a little distracting from the show. The worst thing we had was the chicken and waffles. Which we got as a third items because my boyfriend and I love them so much but its too rich for either one of us to eat it alone, so we share. The chicken and waffles were both incredibly dry and cardboard like. No amount of syrup was saving them. The breakfast burrito definitely made up for it though, that was seriously one of the best one's I've ever had, and I've done a breakfast burrito pilgramage to Austin which has some amazing trucks.
Where the 4 star comes in is that there is a 2 drink minimum. Pretty standard for all comedy clubs across the country. The only problem is that server only hit the table twice throughout the whole show. Once to take an order and once to drop the check. We ended up had a h*ll of a time getting a second drink. We had to grab another server after our entrees were done (which we abhor doing because a few of us are service industry) but we had been waiting since before our apps for another round (it was a birthday brunch after all) and the server was just MIA. Several of us carpooled so a few people could enjoy day drinking, which ended up not happening at all, which is a bummer.
All in all a nice experience. Will be ordering several bottles for mimosas next time so the birthday girl can actually...
Read moreThe talent was great! However the management(Tiffany) and the seating host for this club were absolutely “laughable”(horrible) in regards to customer service.
Our party of four showed up 40 minutes early to a GENERAL ADMISSION show. Which we thought would get us a decent seats to the show. When we entered the space, the host tried to sit us at a side table of the venue, with restricted view, and I asked if we could sit at one of the numerous open center tables that had an unobstructed view instead?
The host replied, “um no, because we reserve those for people who arrive late, and only for 5 tops”. I then mentioned the fact that the table looked like it was only for four people, and asked where it stated you are only able to sit at a table per exact amount of people in your party? The host who was extremely rude, then said it doesn’t state that on the tickets, but that was the clubs policy. Even though the tickets for the early show clearly state: For events in the lounge showroom, all shows regardless of start time are seated by time of arrival.
I then asked for a manger, and her name was Tiffany. The host explained the situation, and then she became extremely unprofessional/rude towards us, and explained that they only allow 5 people to sit at 5 tops, and that was just the way it is because it was a sold out show, and they do not want to lose out on seats.
So my real question in all of this is why do they have general admission advertised show, when you CLEARLY have assigned seats based on the number in your party? Even if you show up 40 minutes early to try and get a good seat?
The management and seating host for this venue were unprofessional, and clearly did not care about customer retention or client satisfaction. I would not recommend this club until there service improves, it’s just not worth wasting your time. Find the comedians that are doing the standup somewhere else where you will be treated with respect. I know for one, I will not be attending this venue ever again, and or wasting my time or money to promote a business who does not care about...
Read moreI want to give DC Improv 5 star because its one of the only dedicated comedy spots in the area. Most other comedy places double as a hotel, concert hall or general event space. DC Improv is specifically for comics.
All the heavy hitters and upcoming comics can be seen here. This is my go to date night spot. We've seen everyone from DeRay, Adele Givens, Will Sylvince, Tony Woods and much much more.
You get to check out comics you may have never heard before. Tyrone Burston opened for Adele Givens last night. He was cool and relatable. I didn't belly laugh but he did have some funny bits.
Aminah Imani is a regular and she's really funny. No shade but I'd rather see her than Tiffany Haddish. She's actually funny not just goofy af.
The place is intimate and very dimly lit. They get you in and out in a timely fashion. You can pay for premium seating but we've never had bad seats in gen pop. Frankly, I don't want to sit up front and potentially get roasted. But to each his own.
However, it doesn't get a full 5 stars because of the food menu. If you're forced to have a 2 item or a 2 drink minimum per person, have better food options. I understand this isn't a restaurant, but people can also get the full experience and not leave 5 lbs heavier with the fried food options available. I would love to see a pasta dish, better salad selection, maybe a bruschetta and better desserts. A partnership with &Pizza would be dope here.
The prices are always affordable. But I assume they make up for this at the bar with the 2...
