Tentative 5 Stars -- Opening day was fouled up by broken taps, no mustard, and a mass onslaught of all DC attacking the newest beer garden in the district. I will be back again but I look forward to seeing their issues corrected, but even given those opening day bugs -- I was happy with what I saw!
Location: I was a bit unsure if its location was proper for a beer garden; Its located in Dupont on the 2nd floor above a shake shack...I was wrong. You enter to the left of shake shack and take a staircase upstairs. The "first floor" is spacious and homey with wood lined sides multiple table options and a long bar at the front. Taking another winding staircase up to the "second floor" you find another room with more seats, another bar... and the clincher -- an outdoor beer garden deck complete with orange picnic tables and a massive bar (the bar was unfortunately non operational on opening day). Furthermore, the location looks like it will be sealed during the winter so it will be open year round!
Beers: SO...MANY...OPTIONS. Many of the beers simply are impossible to find in the area (read within 100 miles). Erdinger is one of the rarer of these options -- highly recommended. I also highly recommend the yellow tap ...which politely lists "hell" on the handle along with the german name which I will hack if I attempt to write about it .. try it -- its smooth!
Food: Giant pretzel for 20 bucks. Needed mustard -- but it was actually pretty good. It feeds probably 5-6 people I don't believe their kitchen was open on opening day so I will check out their other options as they become available.
Service: Everyone was cheery -- bartenders were helpful even under a mass of people. They offered tastings before pushing out 15 for a Liter of beer (which btw is a great price)
All around I was pretty ecstatic about this place. I like Dasha but the fact that this place has actual bathrooms and potentially better food options and a HUGE beer selection is making me think this might be DCs best...
Read moreHorrible experience. Went there on a Friday night with friends. Need to preface by saying we were neither drunk nor disorderly and we understand that bouncers and security workers deal with difficult people and situations. However this was another level of rudeness and incompetence. We were first ushered in by the security person outside. Then, we were told to wait in the nook by the stairs and not go upstairs, as they were escorting someone out. Fine. As this is happening, another bouncer comes in from outside screaming and cursing at us that we cannot stand there and should get upstairs. Again, fine. We start heading up the stairs and another bouncer emerges from upstairs and starts yelling and pointing at us to turn around and get back downstairs. Genuinely at this point I thought they were messing with us or speaking to someone else. Nope, he was yelling at us. We turn around, in disbelief, to go back downstairs - mind you it was raining outside and the floor was all wet - and I completely slipped and fell down the stairs. Have scrapes and bruises all over my elbows and upper arms (please feel free to reach out for proof), not to mention my tailbone being in immense pain I could barely stand up. Once the downstairs bouncer witnessed this, he completely disappeared to the place next door. Nobody spoke to me as my friends and I left injured and insulted. I implore management to check the cameras if there are any. Maybe get the bouncers walkie talkies or something so they can actually get their act together. Horrible...
Read moreUsed to come here for work HH's all the time but been a few years. It's not the same place post pandemic. QRs codes haven't worked well on my phone for whatever reason so I asked for a paper menu. They didn't have any. Went on the website and clicked the pop up to look at options. Popped over to the bar to put in my order and the bartender told me they didn't serve wings or the beer I ordered. I showed him on my phone where the menu had the items and he said it's not their menu. Turns out the popup on their website directs you to another restaurant's menu. It's not intuitive to bypass the popup and the QR code still wasn't working. Google had an outdated one and the website menu link is broken. Bartender had to pull it up on his phone (thank you), for me to even see their beer list. Ended up ordering drinks and food, the beer came correct but the pretzel was stale and the sandwich wasn't what I ordered. Pretzel bun for the sandwich was also stale. Ended up sending back the sandwich because at that point I wanted to finish our beers and head out.
Minor complaint, but DC is a hockey town. Went here during the Stanley cup final and only one TV was showing it.
Management and service goofed up and could have easily made up for it by acknowledging anything more than a tech glitch. Having no access to a menu isn't acceptable.
Going to suggest another spot if friends or colleagues want to come here. They can pour a beer and give you a pretzel but good luck if you don't already know the menu or want to...
