Terrible service. Had a doughnut delivery scheduled for 7:45 am for a kids birthday party. Called at 8 when they didn’t show up. Was Told they were getting them ready as we spoke and delivery person was ready to take them as soon as they packaged them up. Meanwhile the party has started. Half hour later the delivery was still not here and they were not answering their phone so I jumped in an Uber and went there. When I arrived (8:45) all the lights in the store were off and the front door was locked. I knocked on the door and the lady let me in. I asked why we haven’t received our delivery yet (now an hour late to a morning party that started at 8) She pointed to a couple boxes and said the order has been ready since 8 but had no one to deliver it. Funny because when we called at 8 her story was delivery guy was waiting for her to finish getting the order together. So I got the doughnuts to head back but by the time I arrived the kids had already left on the bus to their little league tournament. Thanks Capitol Doughnuts! If you would have just called in the morning when you realized you did not have a delivery driver I could have just came and got them or made other arrangements. I don’t live in DC so you probably don’t care that you’ve lost my business but I just wanted to let you know how disappointed I was anyway. Maybe it will help give your future customers...
Read more[EDIT: I did want to share that the owner reached out to me directly with a sincere apology and offered to make it right on our next visit to the shop. I really appreciate his taking the time to reach out, and the response is very much on par with the other experiences I’ve had at District Doughnut.]
We had a very disappointing experience at District Doughnut earlier this afternoon, at the Wharf location around 1:30 PM. A friend, her two children, and I walked into the storefront and were immediately and sternly shouted at by the individual at the cashier to make sure the kids stood on the social distance circles. (We were all wearing masks, and the kids were understandably excited about doughnuts!) Fair enough, we immediately heeded her order — there was one other guest finishing up her payment before leaving and we gave her ample space. After the other guest left, the District Doughnut staff member continued to stare at us in an unwelcoming and discourteous manner, in silence, seeming to want to rush us out of the door despite no one else being in the store. My friend and her family just moved to D.C., and I had been raving about your doughnuts since I’ve been a huge fan for the past six years. It was a real bummer and kind of ruined the experience. I've been to other your locations and had really wonderful experiences, but this experience left a bad taste...

It seems that this business is not compliant with ADA laws. I had a heavy suitcase that I was required to take up the stairs to one of the entrances since the accesible one by ramp was locked. During my time there, I saw a family with a stroller come up trying to get donuts. The dad stayed outside with the stroller while the mom went in to get the donut. First, how is this compliant with the law? Second, why would you want to be hostile to the public in this manner?
Second, I don’t know why I would go to a donut shop for cold donuts, yet that’s exactly what it was. Every donut was room temperature. If you get the crème brûlée, they will do the burner thing, but all that caused was a burnt tasting donut with melted paper into my donut.
Last, the employees did not seem excited or happy to attend to the clients, despite this shop not being a cheap one. They were not helpful when me and another man were confused about how the line worked.
I wish I had taken a photo, but forgot. I don’t think this would difficult to observe on any day. Plus, many other reviews confirm this terrible experience. It’s so unfortunate they are continuing to rob people of an...
