We waited 40 MINUTES for a poke bowl and one sushi roll and they almost got the poke bowl wrong after we paid extra to specialize the order (I had to speak up and remind him and he took time to reread the check). Ambiance isn’t great (you have to wait in front of the counter for your order) and food was just okay. I wanted a refund after about 20 min, but they were so understaffed they didn’t even have time to refill the water let alone go to the computer and process a return. I probably would’ve had to wait until the end of the night until someone was available.
To the management, it’s amazing you’re still open with how slow you are to complete orders and if you keep going this way you won’t be for much longer. For Oktoberfest weekend, you staffed ONE person to complete orders on a Saturday night. It seems like the manager (tall guy who moved like a snail, i.e. excruciatingly slow) had to start making orders because (he was preparing food without apron or hair covering) he kept checking the menu and slowing down the other guy with questions since he didn’t know how to make the orders (other guy was hauling a** so you should pay him more). I timed the tall guy and it took him 25-30 minutes to prepare 3 bento boxes and he wasn’t even done with the order. Staff were so backlogged I felt inclined to jump behind the counter and help because I was so hungry and just wanted my food.
Your #1 problem other than understaffing is you have 1000 items on the menu that no one has fully memorized (because it’s too much) and are intricate to prepare. I’m convinced no one who owns this place has ever been present for a shift or pitched in for a busy shift. You’re doing bento boxes with 6 different items that require 6 different forms of prep, like 7 poke bowls, a bunch of sushi rolls, froyo with toppings, those fish shaped cakes (which no one ordered). Stop punishing your staff and your customers for no reason and get it together. Go...
Read moreWe visited this place on Father's Day as we wanted to try the taiyaki (fish pastry) filled with ice cream, especially the ube flavored one. Thankfully, we had an hour before our performance practice so we can comfortably enjoy ourselves without rushing things.
We ended up ube and matcha soft serves as well as a bento box and a few rolls. The soft serves did not disapponted and the kids loved eati g it with the fish pastry "cone". They did melt fast because of the scorching temperatures that day so do get a lot of tissues. The bento box, sweet miso salmon, was delicious and came with a smaller fish pastry filled with a custard-like filling. The kids had california and spicy tuna roll- which they liked as well.
We sat outdoors to enjoy the day and as there is minimal seating indoors. The restaurant's location is quite convenient as it is right at the entrance to the wharf and there are some parking spots next to it, albeit quite pricey.
Ordering can be a bit confusing as I believe we are to order using the tablet but then a few patrons after us were able to order with the staff themselves. Additionally, we read that the restaurant was able to accomodate for allergies but we could not get a clear answer from the staff that day. They could have been quite busy. We did note the allergies on our order though. The soft serve (on that day), thankfully, is free of nut/tree nuts so my son can enjoy it! It is a challenge to find restaurants that can and are open to accommodate and we are a family who loves to try new food items and visit/support restaurants. Thus, we are thankful to Fat Fish Rolls and Twists for having their soft serves so our children can try out new treats! We hope to...
Read moreA quick break for linner ( lunch/dinner ) at Fat Fish with friends. We got poke bowls, sushi & the Cherry Blossom Bento Box (seasonal I assume). It had a crab meat roll covered in salmon with sakura rice (pink) with tuna poke over seaweed salad with a salad and mini taiyaki red bean fish. It was all very yummy.
Logistics: there are 3 kiosks that you order from when you enter. One was out of service while we there. You can view their menu online and I think you can also order online but we did it at the kiosk. I chose to have my receipt printed but nothing came out so I just waited for my name to be called. At about 3pm on a Saturday (during DC's cherry blossom festival), they were busy (naturally so). The 3 staff members were making all the orders as fast as they could and were very nice. It took awhile to get our food but it was fine, we hung out and rested at one of the small tables inside. There was outside seating but it was raining so unfortunately it was all wet.
I would come back as it was a casual eatery and everything we had was tasty! It was an easy walk from the museums as well as the...
