I've been eating at Ezell's for over 20 years. I used to really love the chicken, though I felt like the gravy was more greasy than flavorful. I definitely prefer their delicious rolls to the dried out biscuits that KFC and Popeye's serve. At some point, they decided to start cutting their chicken breasts and wings in some bizarre way to make it so that the wings had more meat on them. The end result was a meaty wing with sharp bones sticking out of it. They should steer into this skid and brand them as "cactus wings" or something. Either way, I hate them now. Additionally, the Chicken breasts are much smaller this way and they dry out when they are cooked causing me to hate them as well. Making matters worse, the chicken was pretty cold or had been sitting under the heat lamp too long before it was handed to me so it wouldn't have tasted very good even if they had cut it correctly. I ordered their largest size in regular. They told me that I would have to wait 20 minutes for them to cook more if I wasn't willing to take a mix of regular and spicy. I was in a hurry so I agreed to take the mix even though I have never liked their spicy recipe. They still made me stand there for over 20 minutes waiting while they served several people who came in after me. BTW, I love spicy chicken, I just don't like theirs. It tastes like they dip it in hot sauce after they bread it and it just kind of tastes burnt and always has at every location I've ever been to. the whole thing didn't agree with my stomach at all.
I swore them off and told my wife that I would be going to Popeye's (not the Everett location because they suck) going forward. Then, I ended up at a potluck on Friday where my choices were Alfy's pizza which is the worst pizza in the universe, even worse than high school cafeteria pizza, and Heaven Scent Chicken which is basically just Ezell's under a different name after a dispute between Ezzel's the corporation and Ezell, the man. It was damned if you do and damned if you don't so I chose "do" and did round two of my upset stomach for the week. It was again cold and cut weird. I'm out! Hopefully Oprah throws them enough business to keep...
Read moreI found this place online while researching highly rated restaurants in the SeaTac area. My fiance and I just went to their Bothell location for a quick dinner. The gentleman who took our orders was friendly but no nonsense. He ran a tight ship and let me tell you, it was efficient. I was very impressed. It's a clean space with a lot of seating for dining in.
There were a handful of people when we walked in but after we placed our order (8 piece spicy fried chicken combo with two sides of Mac and cheese and two drinks), more people steadily trickled in. They give you a dining table number inserted into a mini stand to place on the table of your choosing and then bring your food out to you.
Which brings me to the food....
The macaroni and cheese tasted just like my mother's. Real home cooking. It was flavorful and had the perfect amount and blend of cheeses. It was delicious. The chicken pieces were evenly coated in a crunchy batter that was deep fried to perfection. The heat on the chicken wasn't unbearable but a warm and flavorful heat. You could still taste the spice amidst the saltiness of the chicken. The meat was tender and juicy. It was just really, really good chicken.
They also served warm dinner rolls that were soft and a perfect addition to the chicken. Overall, this is a great soul food spot. It's worthy of it's status as a franchise. I can't wait to check out the other locations some day. I highly recommend this if you ever hit up Bothell. Worth it. 💯
Fast service. Good food. Friendly atmosphere. Hella...
Read moreMe and my family have been going to this specific location for years! Just because the one in Lynwood and be hit or miss at times! Normally when we crave chicken we come here for the scrumptious most delicious rolls ever!! The spicy chicken can be stellar! Unfortunately the last two visits have not been the best and I actually ended up feeling really sick this time around… I’m not one to be super negative and ridicule a place that I once loved! But man this time the chicken was very dry and almost jerky like ): I walked in to pick up my order with the biggest smile on my face and was so ready to devour my meal. My fiancé mentioned it to me first that it wasn’t the best and I ignored her until I got home and felt my tummy drop, i was like oh no it’s delish! Well something got me and I have been not feeling well at all. I would post a photo or video of the chicken but it’s not fresh anymore and doesn’t look as good as it did when we got it. It looked so good but man something was off. I genuinely feel bad for writing this but I’m just being 100% honest. And one more thing I think it might’ve been freezer burnt, like maybe it was thrown in to the fryer right out of the freezer? It reminded me of my teenage years thinking oh if I just raise the temperature up on my parents fryer I’ll be able to cook it faster which...
