The Good: Jeni’s ice cream is very good. Gooey Butter Cake, Boston Cream Pie, and High Five Candy Bar are incredible. The staff is always fast and friendly. Strongest ‘scoop arms’ in DC.
The Not So Good: The to-go pints are frequently melted and refrozen before purchase. I mean… not purposely (I don’t think) and maybe not all the pints experience this tragic fate but my last few visits have been quite disappointing. Once the safety seal is removed, you’ll notice there’s no ice cream to lick off the peel and there’s a small gap between the ice cream and the lid. (Class time This gap is caused by bubbles that escape the ice cream as it softens and melts outside of the freezer, possibly during the delivery/stocking timeframe. Could also be the small, frequently opened freezer packed with product… idk.) So instead of a soft, fluffy texture you can glide a spoon across… you get a sad, dense, spoon-bending glob that you either have to chew or wait to drink from the outside in. This process is hard on some of the flavors like the Salted Caramel but completely ruins any with breaded pieces like the Boston Cream Pie and High Five. The cake pieces and pretzels become weird and crumbly, devoid of soft or crunchy texture as intended by the unmelted product. Whole Foods on Florida and Harris Teeter in Kalorama have the same melt/refreeze problem but they’ll only screw you out of $9/pint instead of $12 at Jeni’s storefront. The most consistent pints I’ve found in DC have been 7-Eleven. Their Ben & Jerry’s is currently undefeated and the signature 7-Select brands ($6ish) are also surprisingly good. Same or better price for quality ice cream.
TLDR: Visit Jeni’s for a scoop or 2 but skip the overpriced,...
Read moreI stopped by Jeni’s earlier this week, and it was perfect timing for some ice cream with this hot weather we’ve been having! Honestly, I’m surprised I haven’t stumbled across this location sooner since I used to work right up the street off of 14th St. Anyway, I digress.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with the BEAUTIFUL aroma of freshly made waffle cones! Apparently, the waffle cones and bowls are made in-house daily, which adds a nice touch of freshness.
The workers were truly amazing! They were super friendly and let me sample a few flavors before making my final decision. I opted for two seasonal flavors: the Burnt Orange Creamsicle and the Double Dough in a waffle bowl.
The place was very clean, and the vibes were beautiful. The interior had a charming and welcoming atmosphere that made the whole experience even better. Honestly, this is top-tier ice cream. The flavors were packed with intensity, and it has a quality that resembles Ben and Jerry’s but is somehow WAY better! The Burnt Orange Creamsicle had a perfect balance of citrus and creaminess, while the Double Dough was an indulgent delight with chunks of cookie dough.
I will definitely be coming back very soon! If you haven’t checked out Jeni’s yet, you’re missing out on some seriously...

As a long-time patron of Jeni’s and someone who has appreciated the brand’s commitment to quality over the years, I feel compelled to share a deeply disappointing experience I had during a recent visit to one of your locations.
I stopped in with the simple intention of enjoying some ice cream. Instead, I was met with a level of customer service that was frankly unacceptable. A gentleman by the name of Kerick—who, I understand, may be in a managerial role—demonstrated behavior unbecoming of any employee, let alone someone in leadership. His tone and demeanor toward both staff and customers, myself included, were unprofessional, dismissive, and, at times, outright disrespectful.
I’ve never encountered such conduct at any other Jeni’s location. This was my first visit to this particular store—and, I assure you, it will be my last.
I intend to speak more on this incident in an upcoming episode of my podcast. I believe in holding individuals accountable, particularly when their actions tarnish the reputation of a company I have otherwise held in high regard.
Jeni’s is better than this. I sincerely hope you’ll take appropriate action and reevaluate the individual you’ve entrusted with...
