This restaurant has major potential but our evening was punctuated by bad communication and protracted wait times. I visited Gypsy Kitchen last month on a weekend with 3 girlfriends. We had a reservation at 7:15. We arrived 10 minutes early and the staff informed us that an inside table wasn't available yet (it was blazing hot and humid outside) so my friends and I said we'd wait at the bar until they were ready for us. This is a totally normal occurrence and we didnt mind waiting; myself and another friend have worked in the food industry for years and so we by no means expect a rush on a busy Saturday. I'd also like to preface this review by noting that everyone who greeted us and waited on us was extremely friendly and I had no issues with that.
Us four are sitting at the bar right by the host stand, and the minutes roll by. 45 minutes later, I decide to check in with the host stand to make sure they haven't forgotten us (which can sometimes happen and is nbd) and the host says we're next to be sat. Another 20 minutes roll by with other parties of similar size being sat right away. My friends and I had already closed out with the bartender in anticipation of being sat so we were just sitting there taking up space. Finally we are sat, with no explanation or apology for why it took a small party with a reservation over an hour to be seated.
My girlfriends and I order four small plates to share for dinner. Four. After half an hour or so we have received three of the dishes, which were absolutely delicious I must say. The waiter mentioned that sometimes food running is staggered here, so we wait patiently for our last dish, which was the biggest. An hour later, we still have not received our last dish, and the waiter finally comes by and asks if we ever received it -- without indicating that something went wrong or an apology was necessary.
All in all, it took us 3 hours to be sat and receive 4 small plates. In restaurants of similar stature I've worked, it would be customary for a manager or even the waiter to check in at the table and apologize for the inconvenience -- maybe offer a free desert or something if desired. Not a word was breathed about any mess-ups or delays. As I said before, though the communication standards at this restaurant are dubious at best, everyone was nice, helpful, and the food was very good. My guess is that management needs to keep a better eye...
Read moreAs a native Washingtonian living in Atlanta for the past 7 or so years! I’ve been blessed to frequent Gypsy Kitchen in Buckhead Atlanta, an ABSOLUTE BUCKHEAD STAPLE for Atlantans! I then learned that the ownership was expanding the “Gypsy brand” to my hometown, in downtown DC & could NOT have been more excited! I was FINALLY able to attend my first post-COVID business trip this past week in DC! AND YEP, the first order of business was securing a reservation at Gypsy DC! And to say that Gypsy DC lived up to the hype I was selling my colleagues, friends, and family…HUGE UNDERSTATE!
The new Gypsy Kitchen restaurant in DC (14th Street neighborhood) provided an second-to-none dining & overall experience! INCREDIBLE I typically define by a few unique yet critical differentiators…you know, the ones that separate good spots from THE GREAT SPOTS?… The ones that keep you coming back time & time again!
And after our first-hand experience last night, I DARE YOU to try to find a “better” spot & ultimate experience… ANYWHERE in town!
Simply venute up to the rooftop at Gypsy DC…you will have unquestionably found your new “GO-TO!" And oh BTW, I’d strongly suggest getting your first Gypsy visit in VERY SOON & before word spreads as COVID restrictions continue to loosen (FINALLY) & normalcy begins to creep back into our everyday lives, word will begin to spread like wildfire, reservations will become increasingly difficult to obtain and you’ll be kicking yourself for not visiting 14th streets newest hotspot while you had the opportunity!
5 STARS ALL THE WAY! From your first-class management team to your amazing staff, upstairs on your one-of-a-kind breathtaking rooftop, truly incomparable menus (food & drinks btw) & everything in between!

Read moreThe ambience for the place is lovely, a bit dimly lit, but the restaurant reminds me of fall. We ordered the
Fried Cauliflower: This was not great to be Frank. It may have been enjoyed by others but it didn’t fit I or my partner’s tastes. It was definitely a large portion but it wasn’t particularly tasty. $14 I’d give it a 2/5.
Tirokrokettes: These we’re actually quite yummy fried cheese balls and the red sauce that came with them paired nicely. It was sweet, savory, and sumptuous. 4 lovely bites at $9. 5/5
Ribeye Steak: The steak was actually quite nice, not the best I’ve ever had, but the portion of the steak was rather disappointing (less than half the plate) for having paid $44 for it. The saving grace for this dish was the cubed up potatoes (despite them taking up more than half the plate of steak) that seemed to have been tossed or coated in truffle oil (I may be wrong here) but they were really good. 3/5
Sweater weather: My partner enjoyed this cocktail more than I did. It was smoky and citrus-y. 4/5
New season who dis: The cocktail with the blue-ish dots. I was alright with it, but my partner did not enjoy it. Strong taste of mezcal. 3/5
Glass of Moscato. 4/5
I’ve been eyeing this restaurant for a couple months now and finally got around to going this last Saturday night. It was hyped up by other reviewers and it looked really good, so I strongly think we just ordered the wrong items for this visit so I hope to make time again to go and try better items but just off of this visit alone and the items that we did try I’m not particularly impressed. The service though was absolutely wonderful, upon arrival and checking in for my reservation I was seated immediately and when I asked for a different seating arrangement (as our initial table was wobbling heavily) they seated us at a different spot within a...
