I recently came upon the lantern while staying in Arlington for the cherry blossom bloom this weekend. The restaurant was in walking distance from our hotel so it was an easy choice. When we first got in, it was filled at 8pm (a tell tale sign of amazing food). The ambiance was so cool and I was mesmerized by it all. The light on the ceiling, the air/water structure along the walls, the music videos playing on large screens around the dining area. I got the Pork dumplings, chicken Lo mein, shrimp fried rice, and sesame chicken and all of it was amazing. The chicken Lo mein is probably the best I’ve ever had in my 25 years on earth lol. The sesame chicken was flavorful and crunchy. The shrimp fried rice was the perfect texture and tasted great. The pork dumplings were fantastic. Overall the food was not oily or salty and it seemed very fresh. Not only was the ambiance and food reason enough to come back but the service was wonderful. Our server was very kind and attentive. We were impressed with the karaoke room, we didn’t rent it, just happened to stumble upon it and she was happy to let us take a peak and answer any questions we had. If you don’t stop here when you’re in Arlington, you’re...
Read moreI had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. Despite the ambiance, the service was lacking—we had to ask multiple times for our drinks, and part of our food order, and when they finally arrived, the lychee martini was terrible. The biggest issue was the inaccurate menu. We ordered a vegetarian dish, only to have it come with shrimp, which was not listed in the description. This is a serious issue for those with allergies and/or dietary restrictions. When we brought it up, the staff’s excuse was that they were busy
To make matters worse, they asked us to leave a five-star review in exchange for an additional 5% off, which felt incredibly dishonest. I chose this restaurant due to the five star reviews on Google. Now, I don’t know if it can be trusted. They did provide 5 percent off due to a soft opening, but according to my research it has been a few months. The food quality was just fair, but overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place and won’t be returning. They need to work on accuracy in their menu, better accommodating customers’ needs and...
Read moreI was excited for a new restaurant in my neighborhood and was eager to try Lantern. Upon arriving, I found a fun atmosphere with wall-size video displays and elaborate lighting.
The staff was friendly and courteous. Upon looking at the menu, I discovered that it was NOT aimed at diners seeking Americanized versions of Chinese cuisine. Probably 3/4 of the menu were items I was unfamiliar with. That was really cool! Still, there was a sufficient number of options that looked good to me. Our order was served promptly.
Unfortunately, the quality was awful. The food was served lukewarm--parts of the dish cold. It was evidently heated up and not evenly. The broccoli in the dish, not chopped to an appropriate size for eating with chopsticks, was barely cooked. I would have been fine if it had been cooked al dente. This was closer to raw.
Midway through the dinner someone was going table to table selling something which was really off-putting, adding to a...
