I try to start with positives because This is actually one of my favorite places in DC to go. I love the vibe, music upstairs, bartender that always has great selections of beers - Im a Belgium/German lover and one of the guys who opened me up to new whiskeys after we talked about my pallet. Every convo has been good vibes, laughs and an overall great neighborhood bar.
But Whatever happened before us or with others is not an excuse for the below Never would have expected this.
We came in on 8/29 - 11p and before going to the bar we needed to use the bathroom. There's only 2 downstairs. 1 was in use. So We went to the bathroom together and as soon as I (female) started to use the restroom a series of knocking occurred. We stated were mid use. As soon as I washed my hands i was in use maybe 45sec I existed and my partner (male) cont to use the bathroom. I assumed it was a patron and was met with an unnecessary aggression from the gentleman that checked our IDs. He stated that you can't simultaneously use the restroom. I said OK. He said why didnt you open the door when I knocked? Well 1. I was mid undressed in direct view point if the door was opened and 2. We thought it was just a drunk person - I have beem here and a male actually walked in on me before. He then stated the toliet is on the right. He (partner) could have opened the door and spoke to him. What??? This is false, its on the left and it would have been just as inappropriate for him to do that. My whole body would have been shown. He got frustrated by this and " yall can go".
I have no issues with rules and if i was aware of it either of us would have just held and waited. But the blatant kick out doesn't make any sense. You had no reasonable reason and we left because it was unreasonable. We have been here multiple times and have always had a great time. I didnt recognize this dude or any bartender tonight so I asked for a manager. He pointed to an older white male sitting in the corner by the bathroom - He states "he makes the rules". I felt targeted and it was accusatory because 1. The owner/manager was sitting next to the bathroom, watched us -easily could have told us that rule or 2. The bouncer had time to watch our movements from afar saw us go in. We weren't inebriated, incoherent or hostile; so It was an unnecessary response. A rule was stated, I agreed and answered your questions. The whole moment Left a sour taste in my mouth. There are better ways to handle things and...
Ā Ā Ā Read morethis place has a check in offer, and i thought i was being savvy and saving money with checking in... NOPE. lol the check in offer is for 8 dollar awesomeness... which is the normal price. man... after finding out it was the same price i didn't feel special anymore. :(
we got 1 awesomeness and 1 whiskey sour for about 14 bucks? very cheap for bar drinks. the awesomeness is some sort of alcoholic slushy that is yellow in color. remember when your mom told you not to eat or touch yellow snow, well, this is the only exception... so drink up buddy. the alcohol content was kinda weak, so its supposed to be more of a drink to chill over and chat with friends with. not something you want to drink to turn up / get drunk. be careful though... it'll cause a nasty brain freeze when drunk too fast. i felt paralyzed for a few seconds after it hit my head. very painful.
there is a dance floor upstairs and another bar. they were mainly playing hip-hop. i smelled rotten fish in the middle of the dance floor, weird i know... so i don't know if someone needed to take a shower or if they used this place for a sushi dinner the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was okay. They tried to go for a New Orleans feel, it kinda comes off as a cluttered, teenagers room who is not 50 and lives with his parents still. Nice folks that work there. No beers on tap only can and bottle which is fine leaves room to change out beers. They have a pretty nice selection still. If you plan to use your card know there's a $10 minimum or there's an ATM in the corner. Enjoy the vaulted ceiling in the bathroom. And there's stairs to go to the rooftop and I believe live music on Thursday nights. Fun place. But I don't see myself going back anytime soon.
Edit: multiple people describe this as new Orleans feeling bar in previous comments and multiple people say cash only, and in any pictures I see....I see no 100+ selection of beers. Possibly the owner should post some pictures of their own so their customers don't have to be "clued in" after the...
