Food was fine. Service was terrible. Bad enough I felt compelled to leave a review. I was told DC is not known for its service, but wow... Late dinner on a Saturday. Kid's birthday; we're in DC to take her to the zoo. She wanted a burger for her bday dinner and this place was a non-chain spot that was a reasonable walk from our hotel with a kids menu and a burger. Restaurant not too busy; nearly 8pm. Seated inside in the overflow room, only three tables there. All the same waiter. It took 10 min before we were acknowledged by the server, who walked by many times serving his other two tables. The hostess happened to pass by and I let her know we hadn't even had a table touch. By then we'd had enough time to know our drinks, apps, and mains so when the server finally showed up -- completely unfazed and unapologetic -- we ordered all at once. Server forgot to put in our app so we had to remind him as he delivered the mains. The food was okay - the menu had me excited, but the reality of the dishes didn't live up to it. Best thing on the table was the mashed potatoes on the side of my kid's cheeseburger. My dish was The Bird, which was described as deboned chicken, but mine had a bone or two to work around. Menu said broccolini, mine came with broccoli. Whatever. Overall dish was pretty good flavor and reasonably healthy, but perhaps a misorder on my part. Our server actually stood right next to us at the drink station for several minutes, chatting with his colleague as we sat there with empty drinks and finished plates and didn't bother to check in, clear dishes, offer dessert or the check. Then he walked away never to be seen again and I had to go find him to indicate we wanted to pay and leave. Seven year old daughter literally wearing a Happy Birthday headband and not acknowledged by any staff -- slightly surprised at that. This is probably a great spot for locals whose expectations are managed, but as a visitor it was a miss and I won't be back. God help the poor trainee who was shadowing our server; he is not learning how to...
Read moreBroken Promises and Disorganized Kitchen at Logan's Tavern My family and I booked reservations at Logan's Tavern on Saturday, May 31st, to celebrate my husband's achievements. Unfortunately, what was meant to be a special occasion for our family of seven turned into a frustrating and disappointing evening.
Upon arrival, we were seated directly next to the bustling server station, which was not ideal. Our server was new, which isn't inherently a problem, as he was pleasant enough. However, the issues truly began with the kitchen. Our order included pasta and shrimp, spinach and artichoke dip, two cheeseburgers, a salad and appetizer, calamari, a second pasta dish, and a quesadilla.
The first dish to arrive, after a 45-minute wait, was my pasta – which, thankfully, was decent. This was followed by one cheeseburger (missing cheese), and the quesadilla. My husband's appetizer appeared next, then another pasta dish. After waiting another 30 minutes with significant portions of our meal still missing, we called over the manager. He acknowledged "kitchen problems" but offered little in the way of immediate solutions.
Shockingly, my appetizer arrived after I had already finished my main course. The manager did eventually get cheese for my son's burger and delivered the second cheeseburger. He promised to comp all the late food and provide two complimentary drinks. At this point, the Moscow Mule I had ordered with my initial drink order still hadn't arrived.
To our dismay, when the check came, none of the late food had been comped. As we were leaving, the manager then promised to send my husband a $100 gift card that very night. Five days later, we are still waiting for that gift card.
The disorganization in the kitchen, coupled with unfulfilled promises from management, completely overshadowed our celebratory dinner. We left feeling unheard and frustrated by Logan's Tavern's failure to deliver on both their service and their...
Read moreI am entirely unsure of why this restaurant is so highly rated. I'll start with the good: our server was great and totally earned her tip. She was accomodating, fast, patient and polite.
Now the rest: the food was ok. We ordered three of their best sellers (as recommended by the server): southern fried chicken, fish and chips and grilled salmon.
The Southern Fried Chicken was dry on the inside. Overcooked.
The Fish and Chips were just ok. It seemed like we got the bottom of the barrel of the "chips" since it was mostly a collection of small pieces that were meant to remind you of what a full size fry once may have looked like.
The grilled salmon was overcooked as well. Not by much but not as moist as it should've been. It sits on a bed of fried plantains. Fried plantains that were clearly made with ripe plantains into a distant cousin of what a proper "tostón" should be. Tostones are typically made with green plantains which is how they get their crispy texture. These were ripe which meant they were sweet. Not uncommon but not what I expected when I read "fried plantain". There's a very palatable difference between "maduros" and the traditional "fried plantain" (tostones) and it can make or break the experience if the palate was expecting savory and got sweet instead. The avocado puree that they sat in was excellent.
The Mojito which I ordered was apparently a virgin. I did not taste a single drop of rum in it. So I basically had a $13 soda with mint and a lime.
The Key Lime Pie was very good with its mango puree. No complaints there.
The Brownie Sundae was enough to split into two. It says "vanilla gelato" but I'm not sure if they were just trying to sound fancy because it was clearly regular vanilla ice cream. That was not gelato texture. I have no problem with ice cream but if it's going to be American ice cream then don't tell me gelato.
The bill for a family of 4...
