Worst service we've ever had..
We were a group of 4 and came for dinner and to perform at the open mic.
We were completely ignored when we came into the bar, even though it was quiet. At some point we just sat down and when the waitress finally came we asked for cocktails. She threw (literally) a crumpled stained cocktail menu on the table that looked as if it was taken out of the trash. She later explained they don't serve cocktails anymore which maybe explains..? We felt pretty invisible during dinner, it took a long time to order food/drinks and our plates weren't cleared away. We made a pile ourselves of the dishes and napkins ,and when dessert came the pile was cleared away, but the waitress took off the used napkins and put them back on the table for us to reuse. We ordered 2 desserts and got 1, but decided to let it go and just ask for the bill. We tried to get the attention of the waitress but failed. After 20 minutes we walked around to find her and asked her to pay. She looked at us and then ignored us and walked away. it felt very disrespectful. We considered leaving cash on the table and just leaving (risking the cash to be taken by someone else in a now crowded bar). The kitchen porter then came by to clear the rest of our table and we asked him for the bill as a final attempt. He was very friendly and helped us.
The waitress then told us the price to pay but we asked for a receipt. She seemed very annoyed and finally arranged a receipt. It took us in total at least one hour and a lot of effort to pay! At this point we did not feel welcome and just went home without playing at...
Read moreI'll give Madam's Organ their due, they always have something interesting going on (even when it seems like the rest of the street is dead), but I'd highly discourage folks from going on the weekend unless you like being super close to a bunch of really sweaty, very drunk people and shouting over music. During the week, it's a fun place to check out some awesome music and grab a few drinks. They have a roof top deck, which is nice, but it's boarded up in a way that's great in the winter, but offers no views (and in such an awesome-looking neighborhood, that's a shame.) Most of the music events on the first floor have a cover, but if you just want to go and hang out, head upstairs to the second floor or roof deck and you shouldn't have to pay a cover (sometimes they still charge if there is an event on the second floor too.) Overall, it's worth checking out during the week when it's more chill. There are weird, quirky paintings and other types of "art" covering every square inch of the place, even the ceiling, which you can't really appreciate when the place is packed to the brim. Not a place to take the parents or grandparents, but definitely an institution in DC that's...
Read moreI love this bar! Madam's Organ is a staple of DC night life, and on a portion of 18th street that has been in constant flux, MO continues to deliver their brand of evening fun: live music, friendly staff, a fun atmosphere, and a VARIETY of different experiences in one single bar. They have FOUR floors that each offer a unique experience. The top floor is an open-air concept with high-tops that lends itself well to quiet, relaxing conversation. The 3rd floor is similarly intimate but trades the standing and fresh air for plush furniture and dim lighting in a living room-esque setting. The 2nd floor frequently has a DJ and begins exposure to their music scene. It also has a pool table, a small balcony, and the second largest bar of the venue. The first floor is the heartbeat of their establishment: LIVE music, two full service bars, and plenty of seating and servers in the back to enjoy a nice meal. I recommend Madam's Organ to anyone visiting the area. Regardless of what mood you're in I bet you'll find what you're looking for here, and at the very least, you can say you've been to one of DC's best-known brands that will be here for...
