So there is an excessive heat warning today in DC and it's 98° outside. I am very hot and tired and so is my dog. Decided to pop into a place that looks like it has decent food and beer.
I'm stopped outside by employees that ask if my dog is a service dog. I say yes. They ask where his vest is, it's 98 degrees out self and there is a heat warning, he's not wearing his vest today, but the ADA doesn't require service dogs to wear vests anyways, so I tell them that. He says I can't come in because it doesn't have a vest on.
Properly trained employees will ask the two questions you can ask. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and what work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
They don't know to do that so they have to get a manager. I wait outside, in the heat for a minute or two while he "gets the manager". I'm not waiting forever, but just best practices, if you don't know if the you are doing will expose you to potential litigation, err on the side of the law and not on the side of policy, it's a tourist pub not a high security facility. In this case, I would have gladly waited inside where it wasn't 98° to speak to the manager, but that courtesy wasn't extended to me.
I'm just passing through now but I will be attending a local law school this fall so it will be interesting if in the future they can pass an audit by a disability law class eager for...
Read moreWent with my boyfriend, my friend and 3 tweens. I asked for the outdoor heater on the kids side to be turned on and the server said “youre going to have to wait” and then did it right before we left . Asked for something ‘on the side’ and she rolled her eyes. She didnt refill the childrens water till they got up with their cups and found her because they were so thirsty. My coke was not regularly filled either even though i was right next to the servers station. She easily saw my empty cup. Server was not friendly. It was like she didnt want to work there. At the end she added 20% gratuity without asking. Then she gave us the receipt with a line for MORE gratuity. No. Just dont bother going there. I cant help but think it had to do with the color of my skin. We were reallly nice to her. We said our please and thank you every time and only very reasonable small requests were made. Food was fine.
*edit after owner reply: If a server gets 20% (the max tip? Really?) automatically, they have no reason to give good service. No wonder it was so bad. What a bad trick. You have to read every tiny word on the menu to know. Then they hand you a receipt to sign and ADD MORE TIP. Shady. Im usually really generous with tips but they have to at least try. This was a day when the restaurant was DEAD. We were one of the only customers. Should have had...
Read moreWent on 4/5/2025 and the “hosts” were rude when I asked if we were supposed to seat ourselves and looked at me sideways when I asked if I could take a hard copy of the menu for my mom. The dark longer haired guy in particular was really rude. We’re not from an area where you seat yourself and order through a QR code. I honestly would have left if we weren’t already to the point of starving. I had my 6 year old daughter with us and there was nothing on the menu she would have eaten (no kids menu) which was really disappointing and I wasn’t spending nearly $20 + fees on the adult chicken tender meal. We ordered everything and it came out and nobody ever gave us silverware or napkins so we had to put our condiments on our burgers with our fingers, but they sure did ask for a tip when the only person who ever came up to us was the one who dropped the drinks and food and said 0 words when doing so. The cheese dip for the pretzel bites was horrible and the burgers were an average frozen patty cooked and put on a bun. I’ve had worse and I’ve definitely had better. Rated 3 stars because the outside area was a good vibe and the food was mediocre. I can see how the good reviews are from people who went to have a burger and a beer to watch a game but this place was not catering to anything...
