Read moreBelieve or not, I had not visited a Pitango in all my years of living in the D.C. area. Despite me living here for 20+ years of my life or that I love food and especially gelato, I never went into one. Until yesterday. I know, for shame.
Well now that I've gone, I have a very bad feeling about my wallet. Because Pitango is delish! I was a bit skeptical because I'm very picky about my gelato. I usually kept to Dolcezza or Casa Rosada for my gelato needs. But now I can add Pitango to that list too!
The flavors change daily and every day's flavors are posted on the wall. They have everything from pistachio to black sesame, cardamom, crema, matcha, and many more. Yesterday, I tried the black tea and pistachio. The Ceylon black tea was fantastic; I could really taste the tea flavor. I usually like to order pistachio at any gelateria I visit because I will judge based on how the pistachio flavor is. Well folks, Pitango's pistachio gelato is legit. They use the pistachio di Bronte, which is flown in from Sicily. I'm eager to come back to try their matcha, cardamom, milk and honey, hazelnut, and fior di latte flavors too. I also want to try their affogato and coffees too, as I've seen some fantastic Instagrammable photos of their coffees.
Not going to lie, it's a bit expensive. In total with tip, my regular size was over $6. But it is good gelato, so I can justify coming here and splurging every now and then. Unfortunately, it's not an everyday expense I can make. The service was great too. I asked about how they made their matcha lattes (need to try!!) and the gentleman behind the counter was helpful in explaining...
