I would stay here again and again!
Despite the complaints in the reviews: The hotel staff was in fact very friendly and accommodating. I was able to check in early. No, the rooms aren’t fancy, modern renovated rooms, and they aren’t large —— but they are very clean (yes I checked the mattress) and serve their purpose for your stay. Why do you need new and large, anyway? There is a mini fridge, but no-NO microwave for your Karen dinners. Considering we stayed for New Years, I found it very fun and personable that the staff put out NYE themed accessories to share with the guests for festivities. Not to mention, the lobby is beautiful with big TVs and personable bar staff. Standard bar and hotel food service prices. The gift shop is amazing and has all of the toiletries, snacks, and gifts you could need. The breakfast buffet is one of the nicest ones I’ve seen with lots of healthy and plant based options in addition to the standard options. There is also an awesome a la carte menu with a variety of things not served on the buffet. The location couldn’t have been more perfect. This hotel is about a 3-5 minute walk away from the metro, and in the center of everything. The Smithsonian courtyard is right up the street with the best free museums and tons of sight-seeing. The fitness room and pool are awesome with complimentary towels and a water machine. I liked that they were next to each other in a bright room. Not sure where the pool complaints are coming from—it was crystal clear (because its an off-season, of course..public pools are public pools). For the price, I felt I received an awesome and comfortable experience.
My only complaint — and guests beware/be prepared —— is that yes the checkout price is different than the booking price. Although the booking summary did disclose an additional $68.97 charge for hotel “destination fees”, whatever those are, (this was itemized on the final bill as $20 per day) —— the parking is a little outrageous, daily. For regular sized vehicles, the parking is $62 a day which is a bit of a turn-off as you’re already a paying guest at the hotel, and it isn’t public DC parking. I feel this should be included in the stay price or reduced in some way. So in total at checkout; I paid an additional $245. You will want to factor that into leaving a tip for your room service and the valet guys.
My second “complaint” would be that the bed did not have a comforter on it… it was a layer of a couple sheets and a thin blanket. We were told by a room keeper that it is standard. I did have to call the front desk for another blanket because I woke up cold, but they delivered 2 to the room, which was nice. You may want to bring an extra blanket. Really not a deal breaker because you can control the temperature in your room as well.
Other than that- if I can find a way around the parking price, I will be staying at this hotel again for sure, and look forward to it!
Thank you Hyatt and team!

Read moreVisited DC with kids (ages 8 and 9) ~ This Hyatt location was great for our mid-September mom and kids trip to DC. If you're planning to visit DC with younger kids, here are my takeaways:
Highlights: A $25 Lyft ride from DCA. $10 Lyft ride to most of the highlights (museums, monuments) Minutes from Union Station - we booked 2 days on the Big Bus Tour's double decker hop-on/hop-off tour which was great - easily the kids' highlight of the trip. We saved some money using Viator app but had to text Viator the day-of to get boarding passes. Customer service here was top-notch. Darryl at the front desk went above and beyond for us at check-in. There was a little mixup with our room so he comped us breakfast for the duration of our stay - that means A LOT for hungry kids like ours. Our room tidying service each day was discrete and fast. The waitstaff at breakfast was thoughtful and speedy. The breakfast buffet had something for everyone! Eggs benedict, waffles, yogurt, fruit, sausage and bacon, cereal. Even if it wasn't free, it would have been worth it to fuel up each morning. Kids were working on Travel Journals but we forgot crayons or pencils. When we asked at the front desk, Mohammad showed up with a toy-filled treasure box and crayons!!! Kids were over the moon; nice touch for families. :) Our room was right by the elevator AND was very quiet. Kids got to see Washington business in action! A trade conference was happening in the hotel so there were men and women in their finest suits everywhere. So many people had 2 phones - the kids were amazed. Fedex Office AND gift shop/incidental store right in the lobby. I forgot a cable for my battery charger and found one at Fedex for under $10. Clean rooms, great lighting (lining the beds, motion lights on the bathroom floors), ample storage. Lightning fast elevators and an escalator in the lobby! Kids loved that.
Less than ideal: No Pelotons (I am a loyal Peloton rider and book at Hyatts for their relationship. Bummed there wasn't even one in the gym.) The pool depth starts at 3.5 feet and goes to about 4.5 feet. My youngest could barely touch. It would be better for older (taller) kids. No microwave, and the fridge was definitely not cold. We DoorDashed a few groceries but the fridge temp was questionable, so we wasted some food. No hot tub. Lobby construction - to the hotel's credit, they gave us advanced notice and apologized at breakfast when it was extra noisy. But it was disorienting to walk in each day through a temporary entrance and see the unfinishedness. Progress in action!
If I were to go again, I would: Upgrade to a bigger room with fridge and microwave - especially if traveling with kids. Call around and book with a Hyatt that has Pelotons. This is a deal breaker for me. Definitely consider this hotel because the location...
Read moreSo I booked this using the app Super, which completely lied about the location of the hotel to the event in it's system. This isn't the hotel's fault, but when making reservations using Super App, know that you're not probably getting an accurate representation of the location of the domicile versus where you're trying to stay. Now on to the nitty-gritty. The hotel is currently under construction, another thing not mentioned in the Super App (hmmm seeing a trend yet?), Which hey, not a bad thing. The entry way and the area behind the check-in area are mostly affected. The people at the front desk, as well as the doormen were very cordial, helpful and accommodating. As well as the people at the restaurant for breakfast. I didn't get to try the bar area, but bought a bottle or so of wine at the front counter, forgetting yet again that the liquor store down the street (this hotel is next to Yotel) closes early. The bed was comfy, the room was clean, and the shower had decent water pressure. Given the price was about the same, if I had realized where the hotel was in relation to where the event I was staying at, I would've stayed at yotel. There's nothing wrong with the Hyatt, outside of the construction. But I guess I enjoyed the bells and whistles of its competitors next door for around the same price. Also, when using certain apps, double check the distance, as some will straight up tell you about a mile away when really they're more like 3... Which doesn't seem like a big deal but if you've already dropped X amount for parking and you want to take a taxi or ride share app, it might make a difference. It was still a very nice hotel, which had a decent restaurant for breakfast. I believe they did an ayce brunch, but wasn't sure if that was everyday or just the weekend. At least, if you're like us and not planned appropriately with your needed accoutrements, you can get wine at the front desk until a...
