My husband and I went there for the first time yesterday. It was nice to sit outside and overall was an okay experience, but I don't know that we'd go back. The servers were nice, and his cocktail was good, and my pizza was SO close to being amazing...The crust and sauce were great. (I got the margherita pizza.) The mozzarella cheese, however, either tasted like some blue cheese got mixed in, or like the cheese was starting to turn. I then made the mistake of asking for a side of marinara for my crust (I like to dip it). The tomato sauce on the pizza was great; I should have asked for that. The marinara, however, was terrible.
Also, the castelvetrano olives come served warm with lemon zest. Some people love that and others don't (my husband unfortuantely wasn't thrilled) so just FYI for anyone that doesn't want to be surprised by that!
His mozzarella tomato basil panini was also just ok. Overall we just weren't thrilled with the food. But that was just our experience. (EDIT, as to respond to owner): I appreciate the response. I really hate complaining at restaurants because it makes me extremely anxious, and we only do if the offence is egregious because we feel the the blame and upset goes onto the servers who don't deserve it. We also really hate to waste food. Not sure what happened with the cheese, but the rest of the pizza was very good. And perhaps we just have different standards for marinara sauce. But thank you for the reply, and maybe we'll try Red Rocks...
Read moreAfter checking out Queen's English's Chinese New Year Market, we were getting thirsty and hungry so I recommended going to Red Rocks Pizzeria since I used to frequent their Arlington and Alexandria locations and had fond memories there. They currently offer indoor and outdoor seating. I asked our server for recommendations on fruity cocktails and she recommended either the Pomegranate Martini or Blood Orange Margarita. I chose the latter, which consisted of tequila, lime, cointreau, and blood orange purée shaken, served over the rocks in a salt rimmed glass, and garnished with an orange wedge. We shared an Ananas Pizza, which consisted of pizza dough topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, crispy prosciutto, and pineapple. I liked how the crust was crispy and airy and the pizza was light, sweet, and savory. It was a...
Read moreShowed up without a reservation on a hot Saturday night. There was outside dining but they got our party of 6 inside with the AC quickly. We had the artichoke dip and garlic knots to start, both were excellent. The pizza crust here is thin and crispy with their right amount of char and bubbles. A 9“ pie is perfect for most, two in our party had 12” pies. One in our party had a salad with added chicken which is a meal size serving. Even though like many restaurants they were short handed, our service was good with minimal waiting. Our server, I believe Spencer, was up and down the stairs checking on us frequently keeping drinks refilled and food delivered quickly. He was great! Everything was served hot. If you are looking for a local pizza place in Columbia Heights, try RedRocks. You...
