Read until the end. They deserved 5 stars, but took one back due to high prices. I was also disappointed the belt was not running. They are making orders on demand and don't seem to be getting a lot of business. They were friendly and prompt with service. Their prices are almost double per plate compared to other restaurants. I was prepared to spend my typical $20, but due to higher prices it was going to be closer to $40 or $50 with my typical 8 to 10 plates. I decided to order light to test the quality. Portion sizes were average to small. I ordered one plate Nigiri Salmon (2 pieces for $5) and one Crazy Monkey Roll (8 pieces for $12.50). Wow! The Crazy Monkey was on point with nice heat and really great flavor and texture. Only 8 pieces for $12.50 plus tax was double the typical plate price elsewhere. Still, due to great quality I felt it was well worth it. The Salmon Nigiri felt like a small bite compared to the generous portions at Sushi Chiyo with similar quality. The cost at $5 for two undersized pieces was again disappointing. The texture and flavor was very good though, and I am glad I gave them my business.
I wasn't fully satisfied and wanted to compare their quality with another restaurant. I stopped at Sushi Hana where the restaurant was 75% full and I was seated right away. The belt was running and the plates were stacked up and making their rounds. I was very disappointed with their quality, but very satisfied with their price and service. I think it is the imitation crab meat stuffing that makes the rolls taste bland. The sashimi slices on the sushi also seemed small in portion and did not have very fresh taste or texture compared with Sakanaya. I filled up with six plates at Sushi Hana for the same price I spent for 3 plates at Sakanaya. Total plates 9, total spend $40. I would have rather spent the $40 and possibly more at Sakanaya, although I was satisfied with the selection and pricing...
Read moreGot there at 7:30 and the restaurant was busy. We sat down and our drink order was taken but that was the last time anyone even made eye contact with us. There was one sushi chef working when we arrived. I saw him making sushi but only one roll was put out onto the conveyor belt. This one roll made a total of 3 rolls going around. We waited hoping more sushi would come. A second sushi chef came out and we thought "this has to be it! He'll make us some sushi". No dice. He also put one roll out. We were there for an hour half. Obviously we should've up and left our beers in search for a sushi restaurant that would actually serve us? They started wrapping up the fish and mopping at 8:30 when they close at 9. This was also Valentine's Day.. one of the busiest days in the restaurant industry. It was very strange to say the least and we will...
Read moreDon't let the location fool you; I have to admit that I was off-put for being stationed where it is, but the staff is energetic and wonderful! They are mindful, friendly and very quick to get you what you need. Oooh yeah... my wife and I found our new sushi restaurant! Excellent customer service and the owner actually walks around and constantly checks on the customers.
The food items are unique and delicious. I decided to write a review after the owner David was so kind to accommodate my group in every positive way someone can...I had the bento which was amazing flavor and large portions. My wife and friends had several different rolls and eel etc. They all had positive remarks on the dishes. And prices were great. We will make this our favorite new place in Vancouver. ...
