It's a shame that I must give it one star. If I had the option to give it multiple negative stars, I would. I walked in at this particular bar in NW Dc on Sunday 5/15/16 to celebrate my birthday with some friends and family members. There were no more than a group of about six people in the entire bar at the time. You would expect for the bartender to provide each customer with excellent service when there is such minimal business. Instead, we were completely humiliated and disrespected by the bartender that was working that shift, (9:30 pm). We all came in sober and pretty quiet since we were just starting our night. As I tried to order a round, the rude and unprofessional bartender kept brushing me off saying "wait". It isn't like he said it nicely either. He was actually very much apologetically rude. I brushed it off since we had just started our night and not only am I celebrating my birthday, I had family in town from Chicago as well. When we were being neglected a little too long, I finally said "excuse me, may we please get some service"? He then turned around and replied, "I told you to wait". I responded saying, "yeah, but we have been waiting for about ten minutes and it isn't even busy." (Keep in mind, all he kept doing was standing with the group of his friends that were there joking and laughing with him.) Then the bartender had the audacity to say, "there are plenty other bars on this strip that will be happy to service you." I turned around and told my guests to just leave at that point. I would never recommend a soul to enter that bar even if he/she had the worse day of their life and that was the only place to...
Read moreI frequent the bottom line as much as I'm able when in the neighborhood. It's one of the last dive bars in DC proper, and I cherish it. Just to make sure I'm clear, their fare is bar food. But, I can say that it's certainly some of the better bar food you can get if you're looking for a burger. But before I mention the food, I should comment on the staff. The staff is attentive, even during the most busy times when people come in to watch a game. When it's busy, I still felt like the server cared if I needed a new drink.
When it comes to the food, I only docked a star because I feel that they could do a bit more, but for the price, it's excellent. When you come to a five bar, just keep in mind that you'll get filling dishes that are closer to a diner than a restaurant. That being said, if you're ordering drinks, you'll love the food. One of the highlights was that the staff actually remembered me and my friends, and made us feel very welcome.
If you grew up here, the best aspect is that it's a bastion of drinks and food that makes the city feel like the old days. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends, especially if they just want to have a fun night out and eat some...
Read moreGot to DC on a Sunday evening. Hangry family on a mission to eat. Travelled up from SC. The whole dang city apparently quits at six. It was like six thirty at the latest. A nice fellow from a closing restaurant walked my family and me through a building and out the other side like some angel at Christ's tomb saying There's a burger up and over on i Street at a joint called The Bottom Line. Sure enough it was there and the only place open. Coolest Cat i ever saw waited on us. Actually he and a super nice other dude. My wife got the buffalo chicken sandwich and i swear she levitated at one point. My eldest killed a taco salad he claims rivaled any Mexican restaurant's. My youngest has celiac and is impossible to feed. My man hooked him up with a bunless burger. Were it not for my reflexes his attempt to "slap his mama" might've landed. Then i put The Bottom Line to the test. No frills. Just show me what you're made of. Ordered a plain burger. American cheese (of course - it's DC). Let the tomato serve as the sole condiment. I write today to say that burger changed my life. Sealed it in the sacrament of two Stella Midnight Lagers. Im a new man. Dare...
