I don't normally write restaurant reviews, but this place was so bad, I felt like I had to. I went there on the afternoon of Sunday, April 24th 2016 with my girlfriend, and we were sorely disappointed. First of all, after we were seated, we had to wait another 20 minutes before our drink order was taken. I know the time we went was a busy hour, but if they do not have enough servers on staff, they should not be packing the dining room full. Or, someone should at least bring us a glass of water.
The 5-top next to us had been waiting longer, and we actually started commenting to each other about the scenario. All the while, there were 4 employees outside setting up tables. This business seems more concerned with volume rather than quality service.
Unfortunately, the food and drinks were not worth the very long wait. My Bloody Mary had way too much of what tasted like cilantro in it - so much that I could barely taste the tomato juice. I hardly drank any of it.
The food was even worse, which is insulting considering how expensive these grilled cheese sandwiches are. I ordered the Main Lobster, a hefty $18, and tater tots on the side. The tots were disgusting. I am sure they were frozen because they tasted old and were tough and chewy. The sandwich was just as bad - it came with diced onions (which was not listed on the menu) that overpowered the sandwich. I could not taste any lobster, which I'm sure was canned anyways. I had it sent back and replaced with a plain grilled cheese ($11.) It was the most expensive 2 slices of cheese between what seemed like factory-made bread I have ever had.
I've worked in several kitchens throughout my life, so I know the difference between good food and bad food. When you pay this much money, you expect fresh ingredients. There is no way on this green earth that food was fresh. This place is a rip-off, and I will...
Read moreI don't know why but something about a gourmet grilled cheese just SOUNDS amazing!! I coordinated a big group DC tour that ended at the White House, with the plan to head to this restaurant when it was over. I had about 14 people total so I tried calling to make a reservation. Unfortunately they don't allow reservations so I had to go and just hope they had room. This wasn't great because the staff seemed annoyed that we had so many people who wanted to eat there. I'm having to take off a star because they made the arrival process so difficult with not enough space to wait for a table.
Our group ended up having to get split up inside and outside the restaurant. Not the end of the world but it was very disheartening after I had tried to book in advance. Regardless, when we did eat.. wow! The food was amazing and our server was friendly. They have so many variations of grilled cheese that include different meats and cheeses that really make it tough to pick the one you want to try. I got the BBQ one from our server's recommendation and was not disappointed. I would definitely come back for the food!
It looked like the restaurant was pretty small and caters to groups of 4 people at the most so steet clear if you have any more than that. Otherwise, it looks like a lot of people order takeout because there's a tiny bar and waiting space for grabbing something to go. This was a delightful treat and I would love to come...
Read moreThe four stars reflects that I think there were enough things that could be better. However all in all this was a great place and I would recommend it. They also have self service water, utensils, and busing that were very convenient. An employee even came by to check we didn't have any questions before ordering despite being self service.
If you're imagining and ooey gooey grilled cheese (think Grilled Cheese Mania by JMU) this is not it. However, it is still very good. I think the Mac an cheese reduced how well the sandwich could hold together overall. Mine fell apart while I was eating and I had a side of flavored pasta.
What food: Carolina BBQ with white bread: Bread was soft in the middle and toasty on the outside. Not my preference but good for some. There was not enough barbecue sauce at all. The Mac and cheese wasn't really a big benefit in this one; just existed.
Cheesesteak Grilled cheese (sourdough bread + add on Mac and cheese): Bread was toasty all the way (my preference) probably because this is a less fluffy bread. I really think the diced pickles were the best shape to be included. The Mac and cheese didn't add much in flavor and I felt the pasta was a little...
