Review of Hotel Lombardy, 2019 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC on Friday, February16 - Sunday, February 18th, 2024:
Stepping into the Hotel Lombardy is like stepping back in time, evoking a sense of nostalgia that is both charming and unique. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the doorman, whose kindness and courtesy set the tone for our stay. He graciously assisted with our belongings, ensuring a seamless transition from vehicle to room. For this attentive service, I award a solid 5-star rating.
However, it's important to note that the hotel's entrance does not meet ADA requirements, presenting challenges for guests with mobility issues. Climbing a series of stairs to reach the front desk may pose difficulties for some, and clearer signage or alternative access points would greatly improve accessibility. This aspect of the hotel warrants a 2-star rating, as it falls short of industry standards.
Moving on to accommodations, our suite, featuring 1 King Bed with a Sofa bed and a Park View, was impressively spacious and adorned with stylish décor reminiscent of the 1920s. While lacking amenities such as a stove or microwave, the kitchenette provided sufficient functionality, complemented by a dining area and picturesque views. I award this aspect of the stay a commendable 4 stars.
The Wi-Fi performed admirably, and the expansive living room area provided a comfortable retreat, complete with a workstation and television, earning a perfect 5-star rating.
One standout feature of the room was the expansive walk-in closet, adding a touch of luxury and practicality. This element deserves a resounding 5-star rating.
Regrettably, issues arose with the plumbing during our stay, as the bathtub failed to drain properly, causing inconvenience and discomfort in room 304. Despite promptly notifying the front desk, the response from the night staff fell short of expectations, with no maintenance personnel available until the following day. Their initial handling of the situation, including passing off a plunger for the guest to resolve the issue independently, was disappointing and merits a 1-star rating.
On a positive note, the daytime staff swiftly addressed our concerns and promptly relocated us to another suite, room 704, with identical décor and amenities, where the plumbing functioned as expected. This responsive action earns a well-deserved 5-star rating.
Overall, the Hotel Lombardy's prime location near DC's major attractions, combined with its nostalgic ambiance, sets it apart from more contemporary establishments. While certain aspects, such as accessibility and plumbing maintenance, require improvement, the hotel's unique charm and attentive service warrant an overall rating of 3.6 stars. With a few enhancements, Hotel Lombardy has the potential to offer an even more exceptional experience to its guests, solidifying its position as a top choice for those seeking a blend of history and hospitality in the heart of...

Read moreFour couples stayed 3 nights. 3 couples got upgraded to suites. For same price, $350-400 @, we got the following: room overlooking the alley with trash trucks grinding and beeping starting at 6 a.m., no mirror in the room, 4 hangers, no water, one bathrobe ( which staff took the next day and I had to ask to return it)and no hook on the bathroom door to hang towels or a robe. Asked staff to assist and their response was that only the suites get the above amenities. Huh??? Advised them and the manager that this was unacceptable. Later that day, we got 4 extra hangers, hook on the door and one bottle of water. Beware of room 713. Bathtub has a liner which is dirty and dangerous. Floor of the tub is rubbery and has bumps and gives. Almost fell in the shower losing my balance. Next day came back after day of touring. 4pm and room not cleaned. Asked the cleaning staff why the room was not cleaned and she replied she was "busy." Addressed with front desk staff and the manager. Staff said this was my issue because I did not request them to clean the room. Again, huh?? Manager said unless we hang a tag indicating we want room serviced, they would not clean our room. No, it does not work this way. Staff clean your room unless you hang a tag on the door indicating do not disturb. Nope- manager said I was wrong. Got the tag from our room. The tag says on BOTH sides "Do Not Disturb." Showed the manager who said going forth they would clean our room. Manager told us we could check out if we did not like the hotel. What?? We never raised our voices, behaved politely but direct indicating we did not understand a hotel not providing basic room amenities. No response just a blank stare. Manager said she would transfer us to another room BUT "you need to do this immediately. If you do not, you lose out." Told her we had 3 couples waiting for us to visit museums and that this was not fair. Again, she said we could check out. Advised her that she needed customer service training. She asked what did we want. What?? Told her she is the manager and this is not a question you ask a customer. Finally, she said we could receive 50% off our bill for one night only. Guess it is better than nothing. While all of this might seem to be minor issues, having to ask for basic supplies, expecting the basics in a room, ask to have your room cleaned and expecting a manager to behave professionally is not much to expect at...
