Before I just come off as some salty patron- the phi phi island drink was great as was the sushi. The staff members are nice and smiling and welcoming.
I had an order of the 3 plates of sushi for 22 dollars (which is a steal if you ask me!) - gyoza, and miso. The sushi came out and was great the wait was a bit long but I didn’t mind (at first) however I waited about 5 minutes before I had to ask for chopsticks/silverware to be able to eat my food and another three to receive a dish for soy sauce. I’m giving the food a three star rating because the order took so long I didn’t even want the things I was missing any longer. My waitress was nice enough- and I don’t normally mind language barriers because you can normally explain but it didn’t seem to be going well. I wish we had the younger girl that seemed a little more seasoned as a waitress and I saw her moving quickly and checking often on the other tables she was serving. Whereas we were left to flag our waitress down multiple times- she’d glide past and often didn’t hear us calling for her. I never received my miso so I simply asked to take it off because I didn’t want it anymore. She s didn’t seem to understand at first so I just stated no miso. My friend had ordered some desserts that we also ended up waiting over 30 min for she asked the lady if it was being made as we were still waiting and the waitress seemed to freeze and then slowly stated it was already made about to come out (I tried to get her to cancel it but she really wanted to try the mango sticky rice so she asked for it to go) we still ended up waiting for another 15 min. I ask for my bill (waited another ten to fifteen for that). The total was 72 dollars and some change. I gave the lady a 100 dollar bill and ask for my change. She had the AUDACITY to look at the receipt and point at the tip portion! I told her I know what it is and to give me my change! Had to wait another ten minutes for that. I made sure I counted it. I was going to leave her only 10 dollars but 18% was 13 dollars and I understand she’s working so I gave her that AND my friend gave her an extra 5 dollars even i didn’t think the service was good. It’s to my understanding a woman owns this shop and I do think that is amazing- however I would have to say she should place her fastest and seasoned waiting persons as servers and let them know not to go pointing at the tip when they THINK they won’t be receiving one (13 (which is 18%) is fine but that service was not worth the 28 dollars (which would have been closer to 30%) she thought she could get by POINTING) I have no problem tipping so I didn’t appreciate the...
Read moreWe came at 8:45PM for a late 2-person dinner (they close at 10:30PM) and this place was packed! We actually opted to get takeout instead, which I’m glad we did since there were a lot of tables waiting for food and service while we waited for the takeout.
There are 2 kiosks up front by the registers to place your takeout order. After selecting your dish, you can customize spice level and add/remove ingredients. I’m kind of glad we did takeout so I could customize my entree exactly how I wanted without the chance of wasted ingredients! We placed our order at 8:51PM and it was ready at 9:11PM, so around 20 minutes of waiting for 2 entrees and 2 drinks—which we think was great given how busy the restaurant was.
I got the Drunken Noodles with chicken, no spicy, no bell pepper/tomato/bamboo shoots. They did great following my customizations but note that it was still a /little/ spicy, so be warned! It was delicious though and well worth the wait. Everything was cooked well and seasoned well. I would recommend the dish, especially if you’re a fan of Drunken Noodles.
I also got the Thai Iced Tea, which was so well made. Not too bitter, not too sweet. I wish I could’ve gotten a second one!
Overall, this place is super busy—and for good reason! ZumoThai is a must-visit for authentic and delicious Thai food in the downtown D.C. area. Highly recommend getting yourself a Thai Iced Tea along with whatever entree you prefer. If you’re eating in, note that it may get busy but it should be well worth the wait. If you’re taking out, know that the food will still be great even 20...
Read moreCame Sunday night to get some dinner, when I got there it was pretty empty so I could sit wherever I wanted. I had no idea they had an all you can eat option, I’m not sure if it’s only on weekends or a weekly thing. $25 for the regular and $35 for the premium. I got the premium. They start you off with a salad and miso soup which were both very good. I started with salmon nigiri which was fantastic and the gyoza, which was good but I’d skip that next time. The salmon and unagi (eel) were my favorite, the salmon was fresh, buttery, and tender. The unagi was also super tender, warm, a mix of sweetness and umami. In total I got around 17 pieces of sashimi and nigiri and I also got a specialty roll — the mango salsa roll — which was good. Definitely worth the price, they include a 20% gratuity, which when you’re getting such a good deal on the sushi honestly didn’t matter to me I ended up tipping another 20% on top of the auto-grat. The service was great too, my waitress was kind and checked on me frequently, but not too frequently, often enough so I had a constant flow of food being delivered. If you get a soda they’re around $3 each with no free refills. I would 100% come again, definitely a 10/10 rating in my book on the sushi. I wish I got more pictures, I wasn’t planning on leaving a review until I realized how good...
