Bourbon Street Gumbo is the best Cajun restaurant in Michigan! I'm a New Orleans native & have craved authentic, delicious Cajun cuisine in Michigan but found VERY little! This pearl "hits the spot"! If I closed my eyes, I imagined being in the Garden District or French Quarters dining with excitement, intrigue & great SATISFACTION as I feasted on their seafood gumbo (which nearly brought me to tears), it was so delectable. The rich savory broth was absolutely crammed full of fresh seafood, like crab, crawfish & shrimp & REAL andouille sausage and okra!
The incomparable Chef Don and I discussed variations of red beans & rice (each good southern family covets their own secret recipes, & no two are alike!) Chef's red beans & rice had a sumptuous, deep, rich & flavorful gravy which (of course) featured the "Holy Trinity" of onions, bell peppers & celery, with a TON of andouille sausage and tender dark red kidney beans- The dish FELT JUST LIKE HOME!
My daughter had the chicken tenders- also featured in the chicken po boy (scrumptious)- & we have NEVER had a breading quite like that before; Crispy, light & incredibly flavorful!
Also, her mac and cheese was the BEST we've ever had! If you like ooey-gooey, rich & buttery dishes, then RUN, don't walk, to Bourbon Street Gumbo!!
Don, the proprietor and our host was exceptional!! His kind, generous hospitality was that of a true southern gentleman! We felt very welcomed, comfortable and entirely spoiled!
It was my son's birthday & Greg even brought us homemade sweet potato pie, which was also authentic, delicious & gone within seconds!
This is a culinary Oasis- outstandingly delicious- in a sea of steakhouses. Seafood places, burger joints and wingstops.

Read moreMy friend and I visited Bourbon Street Gumbo and PoBoys this evening and it did not disappoint! I've been to Louisiana on multiple occasions and know authentic Cajun food and this place has it! I ordered the seafood gumbo and outside of my momma's this is some of the best gumbo I've had in Michigan. It was packed with seafood and I'm happy to know they did not leave out the okra or gumbo file! My friend had the seafood jambalaya and again it was packed with seafood and the flavors were spot on. We shared the hot sausage po'boy and it was so good my friend ordered one to go! The sausage and bread were definitely authentic to what I have received in Louisiana. Lastly, the staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The only drawback (and it's minor) there is no public restroom because this is a carry-out spot, but you can dine in. We did dine in and the owner was nice enough to make an exception to let my friend use the bathroom. I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying more menu items as they...
Read moreEver since I visited Nawlins (pre-Katrina), I've absolutely loved Creole & Cajun food. Not nearly enough places to find it in the area, in my not very humble opinion. So when this popped up on my map, I beelined to it. Such a good idea! The digs are rather spartan, only a few tables. The mural on the wall is extremely well-done. Everything on the menu (except the sweet potato pie 🤢) is screaming "Order me!" I finally decided on a 12 ounce order of Chicken & Andoullie Sausage Gumbo & a side of Red Beans & Rice. C'est magnifique! Their business is predominantly take-out so everything is served in styrofoam. Environmentally horrid but great to keep take-out warm. The food is phenomenal. Perfectly seasoned, hot throughout my meal, I would have gladly eaten myself into a food coma with either of these. 😋 With a pop/soda my bill was about $15. I can't wait to go back for a Po'Boy. I'm salivating at the...
