Sidecar Coffee Shop — Restaurant in Waterloo

Update 4/16/25: having a study sesh for an electrical exam decided to have a black cup of light. They have decaf light or dark roast as drip coffee options. The light is on point, nothing added.

Dropped in quality, I’ve lived here long enough, and have been even longer aficionado of cappuccinos, to know I used to have a better cappuccino in sidecar than what I had today.

Hard to tell though, was it;

The person who made it for me? The espresso machine? 3 poor training (No training!!!) ?

Idk but not happy in giving them 3 stars for average. A little too hot too, THAT can very much be controlled and dialed in.

Update: 3/9/23 Oh my gosh night and day improvement on the cappuccino 🥳👏👏👏 I mean it. It’s so lovely!!! Refer to my short video. Oh my gosh, you can’t do audio on Google reviews? All right here’s my wall text besides the obvious the latte art was on point I had already drank a sip of it so you know I kind a messed up with it but beyond that the micro foam on the steamed milk! awesome! the taste of the espresso with the milk? great!! two thumbs up!

THAT. Is worth going back...

They have the absolute best honey lattes and spinach tomato quiche! I've tried most of their other drinks and food offerings and they're really good so I highly recommend this place for your caffeine fix and breakfast! That was my first review and it was 5 stars. My follow up is this- I sent a private message when one of the other locations opened a while back with a picture of my latte that was less than 2/3 full. I wasn't asking for any compensation, just to let them know that I was served less than usual. The message was read but not responded to. In the past 6 months my usual honey latte is either too sweet or tastes like it's missing the honey altogether. One time all the honey was at the bottom so the next time I asked if they could stir it, which they did. But today again, there's no honey or so little I can't taste it. I miss the consistency of the past for sure so I will be trying other coffee shops in the future. This makes me sad because it was my favorite coffee shop for as long as...

I stopped here on a quick road trip today. What a great surprise! The staff was super friendly and they clearly put a lot of thought and work into their coffee. I ordered an iced latte that I believe was called a Jessica Rabbit. The menu said something about carrot and turmeric flavors which I like but often when turmeric is used in coffee there's too much powder left at the bottom of the cup. Clearly they're doing something special here because that wasn't the case at all with this drink and the flavors were very subtle and not overpowering. Some of the team members were also in the back rolling out dough for homemade quiche. The fact that they're making all of this themselves rather than buying things prepackaged says a lot about how much effort they're putting in to not be just another coffee shop. I definitely recommend this place if you're in the area. Oh, and the monster cookie...
