I have been a regular here since they opened last Spring but in the last few months have found myself bored with the blandness of the food. Having had to travel to Portland and Brunswich for Indian food, I was thrilled by my first meal at the Jewel of India and at the thought that I would not have to drive an hour to get good, flavorful Indian food. The herbs and spices in the marinaded meat and the sauces were fresh and aromatic and ample. But by my second or third visit I found that no longer to be true and when I asked to have more herbs and spices in the preparation I got a smiling nod and "Spicy, yes!" and enough cayenne pepper to blow a Mexican's ears off. The service is fast... too fast. If you order soup, bread, a beverage, and an entre the soup will come first but before you can take three spoonfuls here comes the bread and the entre and and the drink. By the time you finish the soup your bread and entre are stone cold,. I have tried without success to get my entre held in the kitchen until the first course is completed. At this restaurant they apparently take to too much to heart criticism of slow service. On a more positive note, both the chicken and lamb served in the various non-vegetarian dishes has always been fresh, gristle and fat free, and extremely tender. It could use a longer sit in the marinade before...
Read moreI recently visited Jewel of India for a dine-in experience with my family, and unfortunately, our visit was quite disappointing. While we were looking forward to enjoying a delicious meal, we encountered several issues that made our experience less than satisfactory.
What went wrong:
Taste and Quality: Chicken Tikka:The Chicken Tikka was extremely disappointing. The flavors were off, and the dish did not taste fresh. Tandoori Mixed Grill:The Tandoori Mixed Grill was particularly bad. It was undercooked, which made it inedible. This is not only a matter of taste but also a serious health concern, especially with many families and kids present.
Positive Note: The only redeeming dish was the Sahi Paneer, which was quite good. It's unfortunate that the rest of the meal did not meet the same standard
Given the issues with the food, I hope the management will take these concerns seriously and work towards improving the quality and consistency of their dishes. Dining out should be a pleasant experience, especially for families with children, and I believe with some improvements, Jewel of India can meet those...
Read moreWe are from Maryland and while visiting family in Maine we decided to try this restaurant. We have tried several others in the state and eat I dian food regularly. We had the Raja Tali, Rani Tali, chicken tikka masala, nan. While the location and food were good the service was disappointing. The lady (owner) who helped us was abrupt and rude and obviously did want to be there. We had to ask for our tea that came with the meal then It was terrible we couldn’t drink it. It was not a real masala tea nor as good as any chai tea you would get at DD. For our leftovers (chicken curry, rice, fish curry) we were given 1 Chinese take-out container to mix all together. The Tali was a ton of food, but the repetition of fish (3 samples) seemed like the same species of fish. Everything tasted good and rice pudding was delicious. Change the attitude and we would go back. Not the best food in the area as others have stated, but limited choices in central Maine they are lucky to...
