Trejos Carnitas — Restaurant in Watsonville

We were looking for great Mexican food in Watsonville , CA on a road trip. What incredible luck to have found this out of the way locals place. We didn't know what Carnitas were since we don't know the language but the parking lot was half full so we drove in. There was a small line at the front door at 5:30. Getting out of the car the smell told us why. WOW! Exciting! We got in line which moved quickly to the front counter. We didn't speak the language so couldn't read the menu. The woman at the register called for a cook from the back who seated us and told us about the menu. She said they closed at 6. People were still in line. No wonder, the food was incredible and came quickly. The service was suburb and fast. They have a huge staff, looked like a lot of family to us and laughter and joking came out of the very busy kitchen. I can't say enough about the homemade tortillas and fresh pico. It was our first time, our friend said that if you visit Watsonville, you have to have CARNITAS!!! We ordered 1 lb CARNITAS $8.00, (no fatty pieces in our lb)+1 dozen tortillas(made in house?)+small salsa+1 Mexican Coke in a bottle = $17.00. Cash only. They have an ATM inside if you forget to bring cash, and yes it gives you a $3.25 surcharge. There is a line out the door and the workers only seem to speak Spanish. If you’re at a loss for Spanish , just hold up your fingers 👆🏽✌🏽🖐🏽 how many lbs you would like, and that is perfectly understood as well.
