Worst place ever. I placed an online order and I accidentally used the wrong card on file. I travel from Wisconsin to their establishment every so often. I realized when I walked in and asked the cashier if she can cancel the online order and I can pay for it in person with the correct card. She said she canceled it. So I paid again in person. Later to find it wasn’t true and they led me to pay in person as well. Owner Aziz said that DoorDash keeps all the money. DoorDash wasn’t help either. Went in person today since he avoided my last attempts to contact him and all he did was yell at me and said no refund because, DoorDash told him “ I ask for refunds”. I never have and even offered to put DoorDash on speaker in-front of everyone so DoorDash can confirm that’s false..he DENIED to hear DoorDash. I only own DoorDash because I downloaded the BBQ Chicken App. Even the cashier that lied to me telling me she herself canceled my online order said it was an accident. Even when the cashier took responsibility in front of the owner the owner refused to refund me and kicked me out and belittled me in every way for a mistake her cashier also contributed to. I accept that I paid with the wrong card but to proceed to let me pay again in person was unprofessional. I’m that person that would’ve let that money go but for $42? I don’t think so. He also read the DoorDash email I provided him wrong. It was just them telling me they can’t help with a refund due to the history of all the info I provided and he saw the word history and assume it was history of refunds(not stated in the email) and it was history of me being in contact with DoorDash since September 10th trying to get help with this situation.I wouldn’t recommend doing business here. All he did was yell and blame only me so he can keep the money. He got madder when I matched his energy on being loud. Update: Responding to Aziz. I was yelled at, accused of being a fraudulent person, you insulted me, embarrassed me and told your cashier not to give me a refund when you said you would. I drove from Wisconsin as a loyal customer and all you did was yell at me. You were the meanest person I ever encountered that owns a business. TO BE CLEAR. Right after I was accused of fraudulent transactions by you and got kicked out. I called DoorDash so they can send me an email to clear my name and they were so embarrassed by your actions they gave me a refund when I was only now seeking receipts backing me up. You did not refund me or had any influence on getting my refund back. DOORDASH DID out of embarrassment. PS. I was never ever once mean to any of your worker before and after this situation so I don’t know why you’d lash out on me like that. Have...
Read moreGreat Korean fried chicken place. If you're not used to Korean food don't be afraid to go here. Korean fried chicken isn't really all that different from American in terms of flavor. But don't go in thinking this is KFC or Popeyes either. This place is miles ahead of them.
This restaurant doesn't just fry up chicken and leave it sitting out waiting for someone to order. Your chicken is fried to order. So you will have a bit of a wait until it is served to you. It was about a 20 minute wait for me and my wife for an original bone in and hot spicy bone in order. You can call ahead to pick up if you don't want to wait.
But it was so worth the wait. The chicken was juicy and crisp and the flavors were on point. Fair warning, the hot spicy chicken is just that, hot and spicy. If you are into spicy but not that hot don't go for that and opt for their other spicy flavor which is a little milder. But if you like really spicy like I do then the hot spicy is perfect.
They have some sides including some Korean sides. My wife and I got the two Korean sides, the kimchi fried rice and the ddeokbokki. Both were good but the star of the show is definitely the fried chicken.
The interior is clean, modern and inviting looking. Much like other Korean restaurants you get a container of water to drink at your table if you dine in. The woman who took our order and brought out our food was very nice. She even converted our order to a combo special because with what we ordered she told us it would be cheaper and we really appreciated that. The only thing I wish they had was more Korean style sides. Like maybe some kimchi by itself. But let's face it, with fried chicken this good you're not going in for the sides.
Great place, great food, great staff. Will definitely be going back. With so many restaurants being forced to close with what's going on in the world right now I would hate to see this place be one of them. So please give them a shot. You won't be...
Read moreAs a huge fan of Korean food, especially KFC (Korean Fried Chicken), BBQ Chicken has been my go-to spot in Waukegan ever since it opened. This location was a game-changer, being the first KFC spot in the area. Unfortunately, my recent experiences here have left me disappointed, particularly with their Rose Tteokbokki.
I ordered the Rose Tteokbokki with cheese, but to my disappointment, it came without the cheese. Even worse, the portion size was shockingly small—about ONE-THIRD of what it should be compared to other BBQ Chicken locations, particularly in the Glenview/Niles area. The difference in quality between Waukegan and the other locations is like night and day.
It’s frustrating because the Waukegan location seems to be cutting corners. They often fail to provide chopsticks or even a side of pickled radish, which is a standard accompaniment when you buy KFC at other locations. It makes me wonder if this lack of care is due to the neighborhood demographic being less familiar with Korean food.
The most glaring issue, though, is the serving size. I’ll be taking a photo of Waukegan’s Rose Tteokbokki side by side with another BBQ Chicken location’s version next time to highlight just how much they’re skimping. Ingredients like cheese and egg are sometimes omitted, which is unacceptable when you’re paying for a full and authentic dish.
While this location has been a favorite of mine over the years, the recent decline in quality and standards has been disappointing. Honestly, you’re better off going to CM Chicken, which is just 2 minutes away from this disappointing BBQ Chicken location. The difference in taste, quality, and service is well worth the short drive.
Unless they improve, I might just stick to the other BBQ Chicken locations where the food and service are consistently excellent—or head over to CM Chicken for a far...
