Tried them out over the weekend for the first time (04May25). They dropped out of #CoffeeQuest419 last year, so when we saw them in the list this year, we knew we wanted to give them a shot. Aesthetic is nice. They were reasonably busy when we arrived, which is always a green flag. Coffee selection was very good. They have a very comprehensive menu and a LOT of flavors for lattes, and other drinks. Pastry and baked goods selection was okay, maybe just picked over on the day we visited.
However, we both noticed our drinks were on the very bitter side. This could have likely been caused by the bean selection, the roasting process, or over pressuring the espresso shots. My wife typically orders a VERY sweet drink. Same order every place. I like a lot less flavoring and sweet. Her drink was noticeably bitter to even me. My drink, which ended up with 4 shots of espresso (20oz drink plus an extra shot), tasted almost straight espresso. Ideally, it should have only been 8oz of espresso there. If you get less than 4oz for four shots, that's over pressuring. Even though both drinks were bitter, I still did like the taste well enough. And that MIGHT be what they are going for. I might stop in again in the future to give another shot if I'm ever out that way. My wife, not so much.
UPDATE (13Jun25): Went back early this morning. My wife and I both went. I had the Muddy Maumee Latte. My wife got her standard drink again. It's her staple that she tries everywhere. She said it was still very bitter. She said mine was better, but still on the bitter side. I finished my drink easily. But I do think that maybe they have a different roasting process or different bean type than places we are used to. Their drinks do have a more-bitter taste to them. Or it could be just over-pressurizing the espresso. I occasionally do that at home, if I tamp...
Read moreFive year update: New owners have fully earned another raving reviewing! I asked to try the Apple Pie as an iced coffee with decaf espresso, a risky ask. I was willing to take the risk for the chance of a new drink to enjoy. I hadn’t asked, but I do remember amazing service in past experiences that if I had considered it undrinkable, they would let me get a flavor I knew I liked. I digress the flavor was not at all off put by the taste of the decaf espresso. I personally prefer their All-American flavor combo to the Apple Pie, but both were satisfying. I love Red Rambler for hanging out with friends or doing some reading, writing, or remote work. Every barista I’ve met there has made me feel welcome and made ordering a pleasure!
Great service. Brilliant brews. I loved the peanut butter and chocolate porter as an opener. I followed it up with a toasted ham and cheese club with a toasted marshmallow and cinnamon brown sugar frozen coffee. I finished the night with a sweet sleet with flavors of coconut, jamaican rum,...
Read moreSo as I am a “coffee snob” I’d say red ramblers coffee is by far my favorite coffee so far that I have tasted. All other coffee tastes like water now no joke. If you like a real coffee ….. go there to red ramblers. They also sell their coffee beans in different variety’s and sizes of bags. It’s about ten bucks w tax for a bag of beans like the store sells. But seriously I travel to Wauseon at least twice a week and I’d say I crave red ramblers coffee. Also if you don’t like coffee they have a ton of different teas… smoothies… and non caffeinated drinks but seriously stick to the coffee you will NOT BE DISSAPOINTED:) if they had option for more stars I’d go as high as I could in ratings. Seriously in house roasted beans that have the best flavor I’ve had ever :) you will think Starbucks tastes like a cup of milk after this brew. Oh and they also are a stop on map for that beer tasting in Ohio. local craft beers and again no water beer haha this place is FULL FLavor all...
