I normally don't write anything when I rate a restaurant, it's like a four or five star rating and leave it at that. But unfortunately my husband and I dining experience last night was not okay....at all. And honestly the server we had should be ashamed of herself. We were seated at I assumed her assigned table, and the service we got was below subpar. We've been coming to Tuscan Slice a couple times this year, the food especially is definitely something we love and crave for when we think about pizza, and usually love having a nice dinner date here. Unfortunately, Friday night was not a nice experience at all with the lady who was assigned to serve. I guess she has a problem with serving people of color. And I HATE that I have to bring race up, but it was the elephant in the room last night, we couldn't deny it.
We sat there in the booth for a good 15 - 20 minutes until she showed up and took our drink order. We saw her initially a couple of times servicing other families (who were Caucasian) with no problem, me and my husband honestly didn't think she was our server because she kept passing like our booth wasn't table. So we assumed someone else was going to be our server until, she finally got to our table and asked us what we wanted to drink. We were still not really thinking anything of it until it took like 25 minutes to get our drink, and on top of that we didn't get the complimentary bread that all the tables had, and what we usually get when we come here. After we finally get our drinks she takes our order we wanted an appetizer of fried mozzarella, because we love their mozzarella sticks, but I guess she never put that order in because we never got it. Took about 35 minutes before our pizzas came out and she kind of just plopped them on the table and didn't even have like a pizza prop for us (not sure what they're called), didn't even have the parmesan cheese on hand like usual, my husband had to flag her down and ask for it. At that point we just wanted the check and to leave, she didn't even give us the proper plates for us to put our pizza on. Just what was already on the table which were small saucer plates for an appetizer (that we did not get btw). But my husband did notice every other that I guess she was responsible was greatly attended to, got everything they needed and then some. That's why we unfortunately came to the conclusion that this had something to do with our race and us maybe being an interracial couple, or both, I'm not sure, racist people are very confusing from my past experiences.
I'm writing this long essay of a review because it's needs to addressed. That is NOT OKAY in any shape or form. If that is how y'all are going to continue to run your establishment, we will choose to take our money and business elsewhere. We don't have to eat here, it is a choice, unlike the color of our skin, which should not matter in any way, on how you treat your customers. And I'm hoping if anyone has the time of day, if you're interracial couple, or a beautiful person of color to think twice about coming here. I don't care if the food is delicious we're not going to tolerate being treated like second class citizens or being mostly ignored when all we wanted was a nice simple dinner. I also did tell my family and friends of this experience and they also will not be coming back as well. Just so you know this isn't a wise choice of doing business. That's all. Hope everyone has a...
Read moreAs soon as you walk through the front doors you are smacked in the face with an Italian spice aroma of garlic, basil, and oregano. You don't experience that in big box commercial restaurants. Tuscan Slice is a big and rustic (also quirky) Italian restaurant with 2 wood burning ovens. There is an open area where the bigger oven and the cooks are on display. You can see the freshly made dough and fresh ingredients being used on the dishes. We sat near the bar where a smaller oven is operated and saw a pizza being made by having the dough stretched and tossed in the air. My kids had a blast witnessing this. The kid's menu has a "Build Your Own Pizza" option and my son tried it. He was brought a pizza pan with a ball of dough, a small rolling pin and his ingredients of choice. He had so much fun making his pizza and then walked it over to the big oven counter where he saw them place it into the fired up oven to cook. He was amazed! They even gave him a mini ball of dough to play at the table with while he waited for his pizza to cook. He can't wait to come back! We ordered Lasagna (baked in the wood burning oven - and delish!) and Chicken Piccata. You could actually taste the lemons! My daughter had spaghetti with meat sauce but kept eating my dish, but also didn't want to share hers because she said she was still going to eat it LOL When my son's pizza got there he said the taste made him close his eyes when he bit into it. He said it was that good. We met one of the workers (very friendly man who gave us a mini tour and a quick history of the place). He also brought over the owner who introduced himself to us and gave us some insight on how they can accommodate parties of up to 100 with their own private section and catered menu (The place is THAT big). He was very kind and patient with us and even handed my kids a coupon for them to bring a friend so they could all make pizzas together. They even offer a mobile wood burning oven for pizza parties at your location! How neat! This was a great experience and I love the concept of the authentic pizza parties. Try them out. We can't...

Looking for wood fired pizza, we came up with this place in Waxahachie to try. This is a full service Italian restaurant, not just pizza. I had the pizza with beef, mushrooms, mozzarella, and pepperoni cooked just a little extra as I like mine as crispy as you can get it without burning. Thoroughly enjoyed the flavors from the crust all on up. Good amount of crispness. The only issue was I asked for the pepperoni to be on top as I like it to crisp up also, but it was actually on the bottom. Somebody didn't pay attention. Diane had the Italian trio. Each of the 3 (cheese manicotti, chicken spinach manicotti, and cannelloni) varieties were good in their own way. Good flavor and well done. Her favorite was the spinach because the flavors of the ingredients melded together in a wonderful explosion in the mouth. The cheese manicotti was good, but could have had just a little more spices added to make it really good. The Cannelloni was very good with the chicken and mushroom filling. Again, the alfredo sauce could have been just a bit more flavorful. Overall, though, the dish as a whole was very enjoyable and would definitely be recommended. The only real downer was the free Flatbread appetizer. While the flavor was delicious, the dough was almost raw and very chewy. When we mentioned it to Grace our server, she just said it depended on the cook. No offer to get some cooked or exchange it for more cooked just kinda "oh well, sorry" but in a sweet-kind way. Other than that she was very attentive and a great attitude. Overall we would definitely come back. Recommended two...
