Always enjoy finding new places and sharing the with fellow foodies. I happened to be in the area and needed to kill some time and came across Dave's Hot Chicken in very close proximity to the Willowbrook Mall. To be honest, never heard of them before, but after reading some reviews, figured this was my kind of food. Being newly opened, lines were crazy long but had time to kill some waited. Line to order was about 10 minutes from walking in and about another 10 minutes to get the food. Like any new place, people flock towards good food and I did decide to go during the dinner time rush.
Ended up ordering the two chicken slider combo with fries. Picked Hot and Extra Hot for my spice level and both were super tasty combined with their Slaw, Pickles, and their special sauce. The food did have so heat to it, but nothing to crazy that prevented me from eating it. Definitely a step above most fast food chicken sandwiches that I've come across. From what I gathered they recently opened. Overall, a really good experience. Can't really fault them for being crowded and despite the crowds, the managed to push people through. I was fortunate enough to get a table to sit down and enjoy the meal vs. eating in the car. If in the Willowbrook area, Definitely worth checking out. Despite the hot in the chicken name, don't get turned away thinking it will be spicey because you can order no spice, and get a pretty tasty sandwich.
Two sliders and fries Definitely filled me up and I ended up having some fries as leftovers.
While shakes are on the menu, they were not available during my visit, so can't vouch for them. Up until my visit, never heard of this place but based on crowd and reviews, they are a rather popular place for chicken. Not sure if this is the first Jersey location, but this is the...
Read moreI got four sliders to try. The reaper was just painful. Too hot for me to enjoy it at all, but I’m firmly a medium spice kinda guy. That said, the medium was not spicy at all. I feel the hot or extra hot would have been a happy medium.
My wife enjoyed the mild and no spice versions. Plenty of flavor with zero pain. The fries were also very crispy and seasoned well. Overall it was a very good experience and I would do it again for sure. Next time I’m going to try both hot and extra hot levels.
Also, they call it a “slider” but don’t get it confused. The size of that chicken was very large. Two sliders are enough to fill me, and I’m a sizable fella.
EDIT: so to update my review - I went home last night and attempted to finish the reaper sando. Four glasses of milk later I was 2/3 of the way into the sandwich and I had to give up. Now mama didn’t raise no quitter, but this is the second hottest sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. I awoke at dawn in a sweat and went to offer a sacrifice to the porcelain temple, but could muster naught but drops of what I can only imagine to be liquid flame itself. My chocolate eye prayed for deliverance but the heavens were silent.
Attempting this challenge without first undergoing significant training to strengthen your mental and intestinal fortitude is pure folly. A thousand blessings on any soul brave enough to attempt this without milk or honey.
On the one hand, my fiery tar pit screams for vengeance. On the other,...
Read morePhenomenal!!!!! And it takes a lot to get that word out of me for a food review. Finally, a casual restaurant where you get what you pay for. I ordered the 2 tender meal with Cole Slaw. I chose the "hot" spice level, and it was just a tad spicy for my taste. I find the spice level in Frank's Red Hot sauce to be just about right, and this was like one level hotter. It's best compared to Nashville style preparation. The order comes on 2 pieces of white bread, so it could be a sandwich if you choose to make it that. My 11 year old son and 13 year old son got the sandwich meal with fries. Beverages are self service fountain with another dispenser that had Gold Peak iced tea, including 4 varieties. I'm not sure if refills are free technically, but everyone was refilling, and none of the employees said anything, so you may as well order small drinks with your meal. It took a little longer for the food to be ready so I wouldn't classify this as fast food, and there is no drive-through. Bathrooms were clean even though this place was packed. When a table was done being used, an employee quickly came out to wipe it down. A great experience. The three of us ate until we were full for $43. It is very reasonable price for this inflated price time we live in, and the quality...
